My dos cents
I am glad the tree was cut down.
I hope it is a fair trial.

i believe the embezzlement and tax evasion charges stuck........ I don't think the drug money laundering case resulted in a conviction.... he was, after all, just a kind middleman tryin to hook a Columbian dealer up w/ Sharpies good buddy in hair dressing, Don King.......I don't care much about any of that, it his racist nature I object to......him and Spike Lee can kiss my white ass

I don't understand the logic of your argument. He asked permission first, and even if he did want to sit under the tree as an experiment or to prove a point about segregation, so what? Should a Jewish family moving unto a street with no other Jews expect a swastika on thier door for moving into a neighborhood that "doesn't belong" to them? I know you didn't mean this, but you can see how the same rationale could be applied to your argument?

I dont think your example works well at all, they are two completely different situations. How about instead we say a Jewish family moving into an area in Iran or something like that...I think thats a little closer. And should that happen, what do you think the reaction would be? So then why do it?

I think I was pretty clear about the nature of kids/teens. If the request was made just to prove that he could, it seems rather provocative. The race card should be reserved for real injustice, or it kind of loses it's punch, IMHO. To do something just to prove that it is within your rights to do, seems childish to me. As I have said, I don't know the whole story. I am guessing that his little "point" ended up costing him a lot more than he imagined.

So the black/white relations in an American high school are like Iran and Isreal? And because he "shouldn't" have sat there doesn't mean he did not have the right. If a dweeb sits at the jock table, I can see an immature reaction like, "hey, get out of here," not a something like a noose, which carries the weight of so much hatred and violence.

The race card wasn't played because he sat there, but because the next day three NOOSES were hanging from the tree he didn't have the "right" to sit under!

Its probobly not quite that volitile but its a better example IMO. This also isnt obviously indicitive of all high schools in America, hopefully just this one...although i wouldnt be surprised if it were more.

No, who ever said that?

I think the vast majority of people would agree with you on that, myself included.

I am not trying to excuse the behavior, just understand how they got where they got.
