Royal PDC dress code update

I'm actually sitting here on my balcony at the RPDC, and, when we checked in, we were told that there is no dress code at Pelicano's or Spice (even for dinner). I haven't tried wearing shorts or flip flops there (ate at Asiana last night - but men were wearing flip flops there), but I thought some might find this interesting.

Hi,
we just returned from The Royal last night. We were told that men had to wear pants at El Pescadore (not sure of spelling, but the Italian rest. across the street), but did see men wearing shorts there too.

We just returned Saturday from spending a week at the Gran Porto Real, across from the Royal. We wore shorts every night to dinner with no problems. We ate at Maria's, as well as the Italian resturant (Il Pescatore (SP?).

The Gran Porto Real was great. No complaints....only great things to say about it. The food, the drinks, the service, etc., they were all fantastic.

I know a lot of folks on the forum have negative things to say about staying in the AI's, but we had a great visit. We went out a few nights and ate at the local resturants around 5th avenue.

I would highly recommend the Gran Porto Real, as well as the Royal.

Mike

Mike, I stayed my first time in Playa at the GPR also and for an AI I thought it was nice. We did what you did, however, we went out a few nights for dinner at other places and got about town. I think both of the AIs in town offer the ability to blend the all inclusive experience and still experiment as much as some one is comfortable with out on the town.

All in all, I don't think they get bashed too bad on the forum.

That is exactly why I have chosen to stay at the GPR when I come to Playa at New Years for a couple of weeks. I figured it would be good to have the "safety net" of the AI on my first ever visit to Mexico/Playa, especially coupled with the fact I am coming on my own, but that it was so centrally located it would be an ideal spot to use as a "base" and still get out and about amongst it in the town. Which, I have to say, I am MORE THAN SURE I will be doing lots of since I am already starting to feel like a local through being with everyone on here! I was very nervous when I first made my booking, but reading everyone's trip reports and chatting to the good folk on here has been invaluable and in my head I feel I already live there, never mind am coming to visit!
