Looking for people who have gotten married in PLAYA...
Hi everyone,
I'm new to the forum, but not new to PLAYA. I have been coming down here for years and absolutely love it... so much -- in fact, I'm getting married down there next May 2008. I was hoping to hear from people who have had LIVE MUSIC at their wedding. My fiance and I are getting married at AL CIELO and having our reception at KOOL. I was wondering if anyone has any good live music group/band suggestions for the RECEPTION?...My fiance and I really want to hire a Cuban Band that plays at La Bodeguita del Medio or something like that...We were hoping that this forum could help point us in the right direction with music in PLAYA, as we have been having a lot of trouble finding Cuban type music or the like for our reception. We also like Gypsy Kings, Buena Vista Social Club, Rodrigo y Gabriela, St.Germain, Thievery Corporation (hopefully, that gives you an idea of what we like) Any information, names, websites would be helpful. I live in Los Angeles and would appreciate any info that anyone has in regard to LIVE MUSIC. Thanks,

I can answer the "married in Playa" call!
I can't speak to the live music bit; we were our own DJ on the beach for our wedding. Might I suggest looking up a local wedding planner?? There are several that are based in Playa, and I'm sure they'd be willing to provide a list of available bands for hire. Our planner did everything for us, and she had a list of contacts for everything we were interested in. She was very knowledgable of the city, and was a pleasure to work with. Let me know if you'd like her contact info. I can commend your decision for getting married in Playa though. We have no regrets whatsoever for our decision to do so, and it gave not only us, but everyone in attendance a memory of a lifetime. You'll have a blast too!! |

On our 2006 Playa trip, there was a large group in from Chicago to attend a wedding at the Riu Palace Mexico. Even though we weren't guests, we spoke with the family that planned the events. They had live music which they thought was great. It was arranged through the Riu hotel. You may want to contact the Riu or the other large hotels in the area for a reference. Good luck!!

The group we hired for last year's Luna Blue Blender & Burger Bashes sound like the kind of music you're talking about. We thought they were great. I think they were called Sangre or something with Sangre in the title. I'll try and find their phone number so you can contact them, if you're interested.
