That's too bad. It was a good alternative to the old Albatros Royale. I watched the owners transform it from the old Pago Pago into Treetops, one or two rooms at a time. They offered a wide choice of room types, a small on-site swimming pool, a singing parrot, and, at times, REAL roasted turkey sandwiches! All at a great location. (I really enjoyed the female of the couple.)
Let's hope that the new owners can make it "go," and NOT sell out as Condos. |

Sandy & Bill can of course speak for themselves, though to my knowledge, they have never done so in online forums. Perhaps they did but before my time. However it was rather unusual to have a discussion with them in which some frustration at the difficulties of dealing with the various hassles of running their property but external to their property -- from external sources, I mean -- did not come up or were not evident.
They put in a lot of years -- somewhere between 15 and 20 -- here and had a lot of great legacy-type info and assistance to offer, and were more than ready to offer it on just about every occasion I can think of where the need arose for us, at least. We appreciate that from them as well as all their work in trying to reduce those externally caused hassles (we always seemed to end up on the same side as they were, working together on something, even if unsuccessfully), and wish them very well in whatever they go on to. Perhaps just some well deserved relaxation. ![]() steve |

Treetops was the 2nd place we ever stayed in Playa. I loved their little courtyard with a private cenote. I would hate to see it go away completely. Any further news on plans by the new owners? Perhaps they will keep it as a small, personal hotel and make it even better than it has been in recent years. I'm sure the temptation is to convert to condos.
