I'd like to have a comment on this from someone who IS Mexican and see if they agree with all of these things. Some of them seem a little far-fetched to me, but whadoIknow?

On the flip side, Mexicans are genuinely interested in foreigners. If they stare, it's not out of hostility but curiosity. They like to talk, especially to practice their English, and will ask about family, friends, money and more intimate matters. If you are over 35 and have no children, they may frown on you or feel sorry for you. Don't take it personally.

I get the pity that my grown sons aren't here taking care of me. (I'm so decrepit. ) I've also had some raised eyebrows that I am not with my elderly mother in her last years.

Faux pas alert: Don't get huffy if someone you don't know winks or whistles and compliments you. This "piropo" is an accepted, friendly introduction between men and women and can be initiated by either sex.

Interesting article. Most of the things posted are true, but are not applicable to tourists. It's good to know these things, but the majority of Mexicans know that people who are not from Mexico will not know all of the customs.
Most Mexican men have strong ties with mamá. Mom's are held in very high regard.

When I was not involved with anyone, during one of my trips to Mexico City, I made the mistake of telling people that I am divorced and no kids...that raised some eyebrows. Like I care.
