What is your favorite Gilbert and Sullivan?

Mine is The Mikado.

Of course I do love the intro to HMS Pinafore... "We sail the oceans blue, and our saucy ship's a beauty. We are sober men and true, and attentive to our duty..."

And of course I also love "Modern Major General" from Pirates...

My two favorite lesser known G&S shows?

The Zoo (lots of fun and good for kids), and, of course (given my profession), Trial By Jury.

What are yours?

I would have to say "Mikado" as well. This is a shot of my son as "Koko" in the SUNY New Paltz production.

I have heard that Koko is one of the most demanding roles in all of musical comedy! Good for your boy! I just LOOOOVE that show...! Again, as an attorney, the twisted logic and convoluted plot twists devised by William Gilbert (also an attorney, as you probably know) just totally crack me up...

"And so we straight let out on bail
A convict from the county jail,
Whose head was next
On some pretext
Condemned to be mown off,
And made him Headsman, for we said,
'Who's next to be decapited
Cannot cut off another's head
Until he's cut his own off . . . ' "

Only a lawyer could come up with stuff like that!

So Stewart, are you breaking the news to us slowly that you're a drag Queen? Poor wandering child.

There is absolutely nothing like the moment Gilbert and Sullivan take the stage and every member of the audience calls out "Free Bird"! It's electric, man.

My Favorite

In a little while from now,
If I'm not feeling any less sour,
I promised myself, to treat myself,
And visit a nearby tower ..........
And climbing to the top,
will throw myself off,
In an effort to, make clear to whoever,
What it's like when you're shattered .......
Left standing in the lurch,
At a church where people saying .....
My God, that's tough, she stood him up,
No point in us remaining .......
May as well go home,
As I did on my own,
Alone again, naturally.
To think that only yesterday,
I was cheerful, bright and gay.
Looking forward to-
Who wouldnt do- the role I was about to play.
but, as if to knock me down,
Reality came around,
And without so much as a mere touch,
Cut me into little pieces.
Leaving me to doubt, Talk about God and His mercy,
Who, if He really does exist,
Why did He desert me?
And in my hour of need,
I truely am, indeed,
Alone again, naturally.
It seems to me that there are more hearts,
Broken in the world that cant be mended,
Left unattended, what do we do?
What do we do?
Looking back over the years,
And whatever else that appears.
I remember I cried when my father died,
Never wishing to hide the tears.
And at sixty-five years old,
My mother, God rest her soul,
Couldnt understand why the only man,
She had ever loved had been taken.
Leaving her to start, with a heart so badly broken,
Despite encouragement from me,
No words were ever spoken.
And when she passed away,
I cried and cried all day,
Alone again, naturally .....
Alone again ................................. naturally

Oh damn you said Gilbert AND Sullivan not Gilbert O' Sullivan

Sorry I had to do it
