Yes Kool charges for chairs and palapas or umbrellas - this is a beach club and most do charge when you are provided with services such as a bar, restaurant, beach wait service, a beautiful (and clean!) bathroom, showers and a pool. Every time I have been there, the food is good, drinks are good, service is good...but that is always up for discussion because it depends on who's waiting on you, making your drink, etc. Me personally...never a problem. I had passes to Mamitas on several different trips and still choose to sit at Kool because I enjoy it more. It can get crowded but IMHO, it's easier to find a few chairs at Kool than it is at Mamitas - but both beach clubs have extra chairs stacked up that they will pull out and plop on the sand for you if all the others are full. As far as which day is busier than another, Sunday seems to always be the busiest day but as someone else already said - the majority of people here are on vacation and as such, you'll find them at the beach regardless of what day it is!

Both beach clubs are good. Both charge for the beds, loungers, and palapas. $14 sounds too cheap for the beds. I think it was closer to $50 per day, or some combination of cash and $$ spent on food. You can sit on the benches around the pool at Kool for free. . We did this one day when a few Peeps were leaving in the afternoon. You can run a tab but if there is more then a couple of you they will put it all on one tab. I've seen them make a lot of mistakes on the all day tabs. We always pay as we go. But we do that at most of the bars here too. I'm not sure that all of the new posters realize there are both beach clubs and beach bars/restaurants. The two clubs Kool and Mamitas are very large. You can expect over 100 people with you on the beach. They have restaurants, pools, large clean bathrooms, and changing rooms and outdoor showers. The beach clubs charge about $50- 70 pesos per person for the use of a chair and palapa. Many of the hotels that are not on the beach have day passes for Mamitas.
There are also a lot of little beach bars all over the beach. They usually don't charge for the use of their chairs or palapas. In general we have found that the beach bars are less expensive for food and drinks. They don't have the nice pools, bathrooms or showers but they are often less crowded. We usually spend a few days at each. The clubs are better for people watching and there's always lots of things going on. On the days we just want to chill out we'll go to a little beach bar and just spend the day there. |
