A traditional Mayan name?

My son is doing a report on Mayan Indians. He has to make a doll out of a clothespin , write a one page report, and draw a picture of a traditional home. He has to name his clothespin doll and write the report from the doll's point-of-view. Anyway, to save me some time, (cuz we've been on the 'net half the day surfin' for info, some of which we got from here, btw) can someone give me a traditional male Mayan name? Oh, one that a 10 year old can pronounce easily would help. Thanks!

Grumble: this is the 3rd project we have had to do since school started on August 20th. This is getting reallllly old!

What a cool report!

You could choose a name here:

Pronunciation of Mayan Names

They have a pronunciation guide, too.

Thank you, thank you, thank you! You're awesome!

Could have been a cool report if he hadn't waited until yesterday to tell me about it and it's due Wednesday....he might not live to see his teenage years.

I knew someone named Ixchel, and it was a girl. Is this the same name? That was the name of a Mayan goddess, the statues for which were found by the Spaniards on Isla Mujeres which is how it got its name. Or so I've read.

Balam would be a great choice, as it's easy to say and means something that was so important to Maya culture.

Gracias. If he names his doll Balam then it should be a male doll.

Thank you. That is my brother's sign. It's funny because since he was a little kid, he has been interested in jaguars, particularly the black ones. He has always collected statues and when I go to Playa or the surrounds, I try to bring him back some kind of jaguar mask, statute, etc. When I told him about this, he was very pleased.

He wanted it to be a male doll because he has to read the report from the dolls point-of-view. "My name is Balam". So he refuses to be a girl. I wanted him to be a girl cuz I thought it would be easier to dress the doll in traditional dress if it were female. But we can't do anything the easy way. At least he chose the Mayan Indians and not some obscure tribe of Indians that we couldn't find info on.

We've had worse projects, I'll admit. I just wish they would slow down on them! 3 projects in the first quarter of school is a tad much for me. Last year he had to write a report on an Ox. He also had to make a model of the ox and it's habitat. I call those kind of projects "parent homework". His first project this year, he had to pull two peices of "junk" out of a junk box, and put them together and decorate them with household materials to make a paperweight. He pulled out a peice of tile and a floppy disk. At least the tile was heavy.
