We are flying out from UK on Monday 8th October for a 2 week stay. This morning we were contacted by our UK Tour Operator (First Choice) & informed that "there is building work taking place next door, however this is now mainly confined to indoor activities".Can anyone throw any light on this please

I could upload a video to youtube to show you as we took one while we were there from our balcony.
We couldn't quite believe it when they started but we had a room that looked directly on to the Sandos and it didn't actually bother us whatsoever but it was near the end of the hol maybe it would have bothered us if it had been from day one. You can't hear the noise (or couldn't when we were there) from the pool or beach so maybe just ask for a room facing the pool/jungle or on the Quetzal side. I wouldn't not go and it's good that they've told you though. Try not to worry too much it didn't bother us at all and I'd tell you honestly if it did. |

Thanks for the reply.I've read your report & have already requested a room in block 11 or 12.We don't spend much time in rooms & get up early so if you can't hear much from the pool area we should be OK.
Just feel its a bit naughty leaving it so late to tell us if this work was going on when you were there. Last edited by Shiftcontrol : 10-03-2007 at 01:39 PM. Reason: Extra entry |

Hi Shiftcontrol,
We've been to the Tucan and loved our vacation there. I'm sure you will too. By the way, we were in room 1142 and loved the location. To answer your question, we were at the sister IB* Paraiso del Mar/Beach in 2003 when they were building the Lindo next door. And we were at the Barceló in 2005 when they were building the Colonial/Tropical and earlier this year when they were building the Palace The construction never bothered us during any of those vacations. Yes, we heard the odd noise, but it was never very loud or for very long. I think you will be surprised at how little you will notice. By the way, I have pictures from the Tucan/Quetzal in my galleries at the link below if you are interested. Hope this helps ![]() |

Sounds like it was not an issue for her, perhaps thats why she didnt mention. There is so much vegitation, trees and such, between the resorts and in the center of the Tucan/Quetzal that I doublt it would be a problem during the day.

Yeah, basically what attaboy said, it was that much of a non issue that it hadn't even entered my mind when I was writing my trip report, I didn't deliberately not say about it or anything I just never even thought about it.
Judging from how it was when I was there (although obviously these things can change so I don't want to make any guarantees) I think you will be fine. As you may have guessed from our trip reports some days we were in bed pretty much all day and it didn't disturb us/wake us up/bother us. Maybe it would be worth requesting a pool facing room in those blocks though just incase. On the plus side, as the Sandos is closed you now have the last bit of beach on the resort - hence the amazing views from the sunbeds as there are no guests/beds at the Sandos just gorgeous beach! Worst comes to worst complain at reception/with your rep and they will probably move you to the Quetzal side (which is identical we've been in the rooms over there). |
