Do you remember your first job?
Ok, so it's Sunday which means it's a slow day here cause of football i am assuming, and i am bored
So what was the first job you ever had? I worked in a donut shop when i was 15. The owner was a big stoner who let a bunch of 15 year olds run the joint We even fried the donuts decorated them, and even made the birthday cakes![]() Anyone else remember theirs? |

Four of my freinds and I "pulled rye" in middle school spring break and early summer.. This means we walked over dryland wheat fields and pulled out the unwanted rye stalks. Farmers would get docked money if they had too much rye in the wheat. Most of the fields were 700 to 1,000 acres or to put it into real size an acre is a little bit bigger that the outside lines of a football field. We would go out after school and on Saturdays and walk and walk and walk. Our pay was minimum wage of $1.25 per hour. Still one hundred hours was a lot of pay for a middle school kid in the early 60's. Hell we thought we were rich.

I parked cars in our yard during the Apple Festival when I was maybe 8... well I didn't park them, but I held the sign and guided them in and took their money. Got $0.25 a car then... they ask $4 bucks now!
![]() But the first thing I was hired to do was tutoring algebra to a 7th grader when I was a sophomore, through the school itself. I think the minimum wage was $1.65/hr but that seems high when I think back on it. Last edited by Susie Q Roo; 10-07-2007 at 06:11 PM. |

Crappy first jobs:
Washing Cars - my best friends Dad owned a car dealership and we would work Saturdays, made about $20 - $30 a day. Lifeguard - hated it, spent more time cleaning up after messy people. Industrial Paper mill - cleaning up chemical spills all day long, got promoted to the painting crew the 2nd year. It was good money but nasty work. |

I worked as a waitress behind the counter at a Kresge store dinette! My junior year in high school. The boss man of the store hated me. He would sit at the end of the counter and glare at me in the evenings. For the life of my I could not figure out what I did to deserve that. Pretty intimidating to say the least- the look still haunts me!

I babysat for two bratty spoiled girls.
I made like 50 cents an hour. The parents were pretty well off. They owned a Volvo dealership. Had to give the brats baths and everything. Wasn't allowed to use the phone and there were never any munchies. Not a cookie, not a chip......nuthin. Worst part of this job is when they finally came home......really late.......they always would "forget" to pay me. They would thank me, lead me to the door and say goodnight. I was too shy to ask for my money. Other times they would say....."Oh, we don't have any change......we'll catch you tomorrow." Tomorrow never came. What a crappy job!
