Riu Playacar or Iberostar Quetzal
I have stayed at the Riu Playacar 4 times and the Riu Palace1 time and is wondering if anyone has an opinion the the Iberostar Quetzal. We liked the small-ness of the playacar and the layout of the Palace. Having only stayed at a Riu resort I am nervous about changing.

We stayed at the Tucan/Quetzal last year over Thanksgiving and it was GREAT! The resort itself is not too large, so it only takes a few minutes to walk from the beach to the main building in front. The service and food are both top notch. You can't go wrong with this resort!

Hi there! Hubby and I have stayed at the Riu resorts 4 times, and we are now booked for the Quetzal! We were really disappointed with the condition of the Playacar the last time we were there, but loved the size of the resort and the staff were awesome! Everyone I have spoken to have said that the Quetzal is far better than the Playacar, we can't wait! Got a great deal on the price too!!
I will let you know our impression when we get back on October 20th.

We loved the Tucan/Quetzal and are already booked for a return visit. I have never been to the Riu so I can't really give a fair comment, my choice of Iberostar over Riu would be based on a) how amazing the Iberostar was, I don't see how anything could top it and b) the negatives I've heard about the Riu's, however you have been and I haven't so you know whether you like these resorts or not.
One thing I would mention though is that the beach is far far superior at the Tucan to any of the Rius in Playacar. |

I have been to two RIUs and two IB's. EXTREMELY comparable. I haven't been to the RIU Palacar, but saw it while I was staying at the Quetzal. The Quetzal was Fabulous and I would choose it over the RIU Playcar in a heartbeat, but only because of the beach and the jungley feel. I didn't get to go onto the Playacar grounds, just saw it from the beach.
As far as entertainment, food, staff, cleanliness, IBs and RIUs are very similar. (But I'd still choose the Quetzal, as I LOVED it there!) |
