Cancun Tourist
We are going to swanky AI in Cancun for a week in January.
It is a business trip and a freebie for us - so that makes it nice. ![]() I plan on going over to Isla one day and checking out those golf carts. ![]() And because we are staying in Cancun - I am looking for other neat things to do close by as I will have most of my days free. Best places to shop ??? |

I love the market in downtown Cancun.....I think it's Mercado 28 ? There ar a few shoe shops right around the market that Chuck and I bought a few pair of shoes from and one store that sells nothing but baby shoes that is awesome
![]() Perico's downtown is a must at night............I went from Playa to Cancun to do this when my daughter and her friend were with me............it was so much fun. ![]() ![]() I know nothing about the hotel zone's shopping.............if you shop there, you might as well go to Miami to shop..........same suff........ Lots of cute little shops downtown and fantastic prices, too

Tappy, when I go to Cancun, I just chill during the day, mostly... enjoying the pool, the beach, the ocean. I'm not a big shopper, but La Isla Mall is worth going to and the one that's up near the "point" of the hotel zone has the ritzier stores. My main recommendation is to go to... well, click on THIS POST. (Sorry, I'm getting drunk on my Sunday morning mimosas and my thinking seems to have run into a brick wall.)
EDIT: I like Mercado 28 too, but be sure to be stern in your price negotiations. You can't help looking like a rich tourist, ya know, and they will take advantage if they can. |

Thanks for all of the recommendations...I love to browse and just spend the day looking around in all the shops.
I am sure I will spend most of the time chilling at the beach...but I am not sure if my January-white skin can take that every day. Last edited by TAPPY; 10-14-2007 at 09:41 AM.. |

Its the Cancun Palace Suki. Tappy has been chatting about it elsewhere on the forum:

Hi Tappy
![]() Susie's right, La Isla is good place to go. We like to have a meal there overlooking the lake and fountain at sunset. There's also a cinema. Plaza KuKulcan on the hotel strip is worth a nose about and it has a good chinese restaurant at the south end. Me likey the interior and the duck (to eat). Plaza Las Americas is a large undercover shopping centre in South Cancun that's used by everybody -so you'll get to see some locals doing everyday local things and 'hanging out'. You'll notice more well heeled Mexicans here than you see in Playa. Go to the classic Mexican stores: Liverpool and Sanbourns. Go to Zara (Euro chic). Try the VIP cinema upstairs at the south end (not the riff-raff one in the middle). Paseo Cancun This is a very new, more upmarket shopping centre a bit further West into the town. It's not as big as the others. It's behind the Soriana Super Market. It has restaurants, boutiques, cinema, clothing shops, shoe stores, etc, er, and Hooters - which I must say serves very good burgers. Take a taxi there and back. |
