Sweetaspie's RPRM Trip Report

I just returned from a fabulous trip at the Riu Palace Riviera Maya. I must say that I was very impressed with this hotel, and found the serenity I was looking for. I went with a friend...first ever girls trip and it was truly a blast.

Day One.

My friend stayed at my house the night before because we had to get up so early. She didn't want to wake her family so early. We woke up at 2:30 a.m., took quick showers...finished up some last minute things...had a cocktail to ease my nerves about the flight...and we were off. Here is a picture of my friend and I on the plane before take-off. I am on the right.

The flight was fine. I don't like to fly, and usually anyone who has been on a plane with me never forgets the experience. I had my friend on one side, and a guy I didn't know on the other. The guy next to me was traveling with his wife, but she ended up sitting behind him. He was very nice, and his wife was a great sport too considering I was grabbing his hand and arm every time we flew through a cloud...

Arriving at the airport...ready for a drink

Our drive to the hotel was fairly uneventful. Stopped for some beer and we were off. I have heard about the drivers here, but omigod! I am glad the seats weren't leather because my ass would have been sliding back and forth the whole time between the weaving in and out of traffic. Anyway, finally got to the hotel and it was beautiful. Here is a picture of the front of the hotel as we pulled up..

And a picture with our driver, Luis..obviously I had quite a few drinks in me by then as you can see I felt the need to drape both arms around him, rather than just a normal loose arm around the back pose. Oh well, he wasn't complaining.

More in a bit.

Okay chica, it's been "a bit" - where's the rest of your report?

(It's getting cold here in Colorado, so I'm living vicariously through everyone else's trip reports).

That's a lot of luggage for 2 young ladies - if you're like me, it's mostly shoes!

I will post more beach pics soon. Our beach wasn't too great. The area shown is an upper level from the water. As far as where you actually got in to swim, there wasn't a lot of beach. But resorts on each side of us had nice areas to walk/swim.

Oh, by the way...my bikini days are over.

That's funny. Well, I wouldn't say mostly shoes. (Just the smaller suitcase was full of shoes. ) I overpacked as most do. I didn't wear half of what I brought.

Having seen that last pic you now have me worried. I think I need to buy a bigger suitcase!

Day one continued...

We arrived at the hotel pretty early. (10:30) Check in was totally smooth. I had emailed a week prior to our arrival and requested a certain room. They said that room was unavailable, but offered us a free upgrade to an ocean view room. I wasn't going to argue with that.

Here are some photos of the lobby area.

And a couple from our room balcony.

So the first day was great. We got our swimsuits on and headed to the beach. We alternated between beach and swim-up pool bar. I am usually a beer drinker, but had several different drinks/shots during the day. By noon I was feeling pretty freaking good. So I figured I should keep drinking since it seemed to be working well so far. Needless to say, around 3 I needed a break. I had to lay down for a few minutes to get my 2nd wind going. (okay, 2 hours..) but it was much needed. Remember, I got up at 2:30 in the morning. My friend continued partying while I took my little snooze...so by the time I woke up and was ready to party, she had to lie down. So, dinner was by myself the first night. I still had a great time though. I met a lot of nice folks that welcomed me to party with them. Turned in fairly early to get a fresh start for the next day. Here are a few random beach pictures...

Thanks you so much for the pictures you've posted so far. We stayed at the Palace in February and we are heading back in November, and I'm happy to see it hasn't changed (post storm). There wasn't much beach right by the water but the hotel it set way back from the sea and there is lots of sand and loungers. Thanks again....PJ
