Which rooms to look at for Barcelo Maya Beach Resort?

We (6 so far) have just booked for a week at the Barcelo in April. We stayed at the IB Quetzal last May and LOVED it, but we are looking for snorkeling right at the resort and sounds like Barcelo is our best bet. GREAT price from MKE ($979pp - 7 nights). Cannot wait! Just decided on the spur of the moment and now have to wait until April to go back to HC Monterey!!! Loved it there!! We will definitely spend more time in town this time (last trip involved 10 people of which only 2 others wanted to do the town thing). So this time, it's just us, my In-laws and one other couple, so we will do what we want!! Definitely more snorkeling, cenotes and town!! Can't wait. Any info on which rooms to look at for Barcelo Maya Beach Resort??

I think you made an excellent choice in the Barceló.

The snorkeling off the beach is excellent! I just came back on Saturday. While I was there I was snorkeling and all of sudden a boat pulls up and drops off a bunch of other snorkelers. They were there to see the turtles and all the other great sea life off the Barceló shore.

The snorkeling must be pretty good if they bring snorkeling tours there.

If you are looking for info, check out the Unofficial Barceló Maya web site. It's got answers to all the questions. And there's a great discussion board where you can ask any question you can't find an answer to. Us Barcelónites are experts on the place.

We may also be there in April. So who knows, maybe we'll get to meet?

Well, got a call and there are potentially 2-6 more joining us on our trip! This may end up being bigger than the 10 we had in May! Weird part is, in May it was all of our bestest friends, and this group will be a mix of family and distant friends and some merely "aquaintances" that have heard about what fun it is there and are deciding to go!! INTERESTING!

Sounds like things are shaping up nicely for you

When we were there last week, we were with a group from the Unoffical Barceló discussion board. There was about 30 of us who went and on the day when there was the most overlap, we had over 20 people together.

It was really fun being there with a group. Anywhere you went in the resort you were almost guaranteed to meet up with someone you knew. It was great!

Second time for us going to the Barcelo. Last time was April 2006. We had a great time, thus the reason for returning.

We will be there in early April. (Apr 1-8) Trying to get the nerve up to rent a car to do CI and other places. We are both avid snorkellers and might do the Discover Scuba where they give you some theory, then time in the pool and then a shallow dive.
