Girls trip--Luna Encantada 10/3 to 10/8
Day 1 Oct 3rd
My girlfriends and I (Trish, Laurie, Jane, and Andolyn) had all looked forward to this trip for the past 5 months...couldn't believe when it was already Oct 2nd and we were leaving the next morning bright and early at 6:00 am! Flight on Delta from STL to ATL left 30 minutes late and we circled ATL for another 20 minutes, so we ended up being just under an hour late. No worries---we had a layover of about 2 hours anyway. Met my girlfriend Andolyn from Alabama and we were all taking the same flight to Cancun! ![]() Laurie, Trish and Jane bright and early at the airport We arrived on time and got off the plane first, and ahead of an American flight that had just arrived. Got through immigration in about 15 minutes only to find that our luggage never made it on our plane . So instead of being the first out of the airport and in the van to Playa, we had to file a claim with Delta. By the time we finished (4 of us didn't have luggage) there was a line of about 200 people in front of us. The nice people at Delta were gracious enough to ask the people at the Cancun airport to open a new line for us and they did! Found the playa.info shuttle and off to PDC!Stopped at Super Walmart on the way to stock up on soda, chips, beer and vodka for the 5 nights. First, I have to say that Luna Encantada is perfect! The location, views, condo layouts, everything suited us perfectly. We stayed in unit B-2, which was decorated in a style which we all loved. They had the most awesome lighting, we loved every one of them! In hindsight we wished we would have rented a first floor unit, but oh well, it still worked out. ![]() Entryway of B-2 |

Day 1 Cont'd.
![]() Main living area from balcony. I don't know if you can see the pendants, but they were the shell lights... ![]() View of the ocean and beach from our balcony. ![]() The courtyard from our balcony. LE is a half a block from 5th and Calle 6th, which conveniently has a little store with beer, cigarettes, liquer and little trinkets. It was really great for all those Bud Light runs that Andolyn made, hehe. Since four of us didn't have our luggage and we were hungry and parched, we walked next door to Fusion for some margaritas and lunch. We were soooo looking forward to our first round of drinks and chips/guac. ![]() Jane at Fusion. I love Jane to death, but she is a total poser for the camera which you will see in later photo, lol. ![]() Trishie and Ando. Luna Encatada is behind them, so the location was VERY convenient for us thirsty girls. A little background. I have known Ando for over 14 years. We met when she lived in STL and my boys were two, so we have been through a lot of family vacations together. You know how sometimes you just click with people and everyone in the family gets along? Yep, that's us----her daughter is like a sister to my boys. We are secretly planning for her to marry one of them . Trish and I used to be neighbors and have known each other for 11 years. Laurie is Trish's sis in law, and I was introduced to Jane through Trish via the Elk's Lodge bunko group. Anyway--------all of them are dear friends and we were all sooo excited to be getting away together without any BOYS!!!

Day 1 cont'd. We decided to walk down the beach to Bad Boyz and have a few drinks. We met some of the staff and promised to come back the next day provided we had our luggage. I was the only one that had the forsight to pack a suit in my carry on, but didn't want to take that first dip without my girls. We had already decided to buy new suits if they hadn't shown up with our bags. We walked the rest of the way to the ferry pier, then up to 5th to make our way back to the condo. The walk made us extremely parched, so we had to stop at the first swing bar we saw, Pez Vela (?), right at the corner of 5th and Calle 4 I believe. I had been here before with my husband and loved the location for people watching ![]() ![]() Lauri and Ando "swinging" ![]() Ando and myself We met some interesting people at this bar and ended up staying and drinking WAY longer than originally planned. We met two couples that were visiting for the day from Cancun. They told us about a Cuban restaurant, La Bodeguita del Medio, which we decided to visit later in the week. Another couple we met was fascinated with Trish's iphone, and wouldn't leave us alone. We went back to the condo to see if we had a message about our luggage. The great thing about LE is that they have Vonage phone there, so all calls back and forth to the states are free! No message from Delta, phooey . We sat out on the balcony, had a few more drinks and tried to decide where to go for dinner since it was getting late and we had all been up since 3:00 am, that combined with all the alcohol was making for sleepy girls....We decided to go to the little restaurant right outside the enterance to our condo....BIG MISTAKE....we were the only one's in there and none of the food was good....we commented the rest of the week about how they could stay in business when we saw only one of the tables filled each time we walked by...which was a lot as we had to go to get more Bud Light . Also have to add that I haven't smoked in over two years, but as much as I drank, I was lured back to the Marlboro Lights for 5 days ![]() The speculation was that maybe it was a front for something else (by others in the condo complex that we met the next day), which would explain the quandry when we actually ordered food and it took FOREVER....even long for vacation time... Finished up the night by sitting on the balcony listening to the waves in our jammies. At 11:30 we got a call that the luggage was on it's way! However, my suitcase was ripped open and I am still arguing with Delta over getting a replacement....oh well.....Day 2 coming up....

Day 2:
Woke up bright and early to a neighbor talking on their patio. We had a window open in the room that was hidden by a shutter all week and we didn't realize it was open until 2 days before we left. Apparently our neighbors were VERY early risers, thus so were we! It is really nice to be able to sit out on the patio each morning and just chill before the day begins. That morning I walked with Andolyn and Laurie up to Cafe Tropical and got some coffee. It was a beautiful, hot day, so we were excited to spend it at the beach and pool. We decided to start out at the pool, as the view from the pool was awesome. There is an infinity pool, which is a great spot to people watch! ![]() The view from inside the pool. We walked down to Bad Boyz and spent a few hours there, swam and had a few drinks. It was fine, nothing exciting as it was early in the day. We planned on going back later that afternoon for the music....but never made it back. We decided to have an early lunch since we hadn't had breakfast. We wanted to go to the Playa Maya. We were only about 25-20 yards from PM, but it was closed, it looked like they were remodeling. It was open later in our trip....We ended up at the Mosiquito Beach for lunch and drinks... ![]() ![]() Laurie and I at lunch. Ok, my friends thought I was completely insane when I wanted to take food pictures, so I didn't do it---I figured that almost everyone has eaten where we were, so everyone already knew what it looked like, lol. The staff was really attentive and the waiter went to the store up the street to get us Coke Light since they had run out, so that was nice. After lunch Laurie, Ando, and Jane wanted to go do a little shopping and tour the rooms at the Mosquito Blue. Trish and I went back to the pool, then decided to walk up the street to get rafts for the pool. We found a store across from the Tequilaria and they blew them up for us after a generous tip, lol. We picked up more Bud Light and Coors Light and headed back to the pool. I love a town where you can buy single cans and shop/drink---it is great! ![]() Trish and I at the pool. The girls were gone for awhile and by the time they got back we already had a good buzz going After that it was beer and sunshine all afternoon long!![]() ![]() Ando in the pool. We had such a good time and met some of the other guests at LE. There were a few families with smaller children....when they came to the pool we went to the beach. I know that sounds weird, but all of us had left ours at home for a reason .It was getting later and we were trying to decide what to do for dinner when Trish's husband called and her baby had taken a turn for the worst...by baby I mean her 17 month old Shorkie---Maggie, a 5 lb furball. It was pretty dramatic for awhile as the dog flatlined and they had to revive it. It was getting blood transfusions, all kinds of thing! Trish wanted the next flight out....she couldn't leave until the next morning...talk about a buzz kill!!! That night Ando, Jane and I went to La Parilla to eat dinner....we sat upstairs and had fun watching the people down on 5th and eating yummy fajitas and coconut shrimp, oh and more beer and margaritas. After dinner we walked down towards the BP and went to several really cool bars. I can't remember the names, but they had couches and played really fun music. We plopped down and enjoyed the two for one drinks---I was able to find Absolut Mandarin, so I was a happy camper . I had left the camera at the condo---so no photo evidence of the evening. We topped the evening off with a few drinks at BP, then pizza from the little place across from OM.Trish left the condo at 3:30 am to go to the airport....then there were 4..... |
