Weather in November and Hotel Advice
Hello ppl
Be gentle as this is my first post. Looking to come to Playacar in mid November from the UK. Wondering what sort of temperatures to expect in the day and at night (I heard it can get a bit chilly at night) Have been looking at the Riu Hotels (Tequila, Yucatan, Playacar) - can anyone tell me which is the better of the three to stay in? and also if anyone knows what the policy is for the a la carte restaurants are (ie.. how many visits per week). I also noticed that a few people on here said the Iberostar hotel were maybe better than the Riu chain - is this the case (not even sure if we can get a holiday with this one but might push for it, if it's better). Cheers for your help WJUK ps - Do any of the hotels show football on TV (that's soccer to some of you)

November weather
We went last year (over Thanksgiving) in November. The ocean was cold. We got in a heated pool during the day & enjoyed it. Going back to the Royal this year for Thanksgiving so we'll have a better idea. I'm bringing a light jacket for after the sun goes down.
Have fun! I'm counting down the days. |

Iberostar vs. Riu
I've been to the Iberostar Lindo, Riu Playacar & Riu Palace Mexico. I liked the location of the Riu's closer to Playa. I liked the wildlife and being able to make arrangments for a la carte dinners for the whole week by sitting down with the concierge once. The Riu's have you make reservations that morning & to make sure you get in you need to be down there early.
I'd go back to either a Riu or the Iberostar chain, but I like to try different places |

I only saw 2 people in the ocean the whole time we were at the resort, so it wasn't just me. I pack light - going for 11 days with one carry on bag.

We stayed at the Iberostar Tucan last year over Thanksgiving. It was wonderful! It is only a 5 minute cab ride into PDC. Last year the weather was chilly. When we got there they told us that they were having a cold front---it figured!
It did warm up later in the week. We have been in November twice now, the only downside we found was that the sun sets early, just like here at home...so it is dark by about 5:30 or so. The pools were also really chilly!!! The ocean was a wonderful temp though---which was perfect!!! |

Well said Rick. I live on the east coast of England and have grown up in a seaside town - in fact it was Skegness, a town whose slogan boasts how it "is so bracing" [read "it is blowing a freaking freezing gale"]. And when you've been brought up with the "ocean" consisting the North Sea, the waters in the Caribbean area are warm by comparison at ANY time of the year. I am not expecting to feel chilly of an evening either when I am there in January. Yes, it is cooler than Mexico is at other times of the year, but even the evenings will still be warmer than those during most English summers.

I am sure it is probably different each year but we were at IB Maya last Thanksgiving and found the ocean to be warmer than the pools. Had to buy a sweatshirt and a fleece jacket since I found the evenings quite chilly. Have usually gone to Playa in April/May/June and prefer the weather then rather than November. To each his own though.
