U.S. panel urges study of kids' cough, cold drugs - Yahoo! News

I seem to recall all of these drugs having a gazillion warnings on them about not being appropriate for children under X years of age.

I certainly wouldn't put it past big pharm from selling garbage, though.

A few thoughts, from one who has used such medicines, seemingly successfully:

I wonder how much of this might have to do with the formulations themselves ... I don't know anything, and haven't read anything ... but have these companies done any kind of cost-cutting to their formulas to keep them priced competitively? Are they being made in China?

How many of these deaths/side effects/etc. are occuring in homes where English is not the primary language?

How many of these deaths/side effects/etc. are accidental overdoses?

How many of these deaths/side effects/etc. are happening because of misuse and oversue of the products?

More complete information has to come out before I would get too worried.
