Playa 2006 trip report Feb.22-Mar.4

2/22 Day One

We are off for our second trip to Playa . First one was last year and we fell in love-so we are back for more!! Enjoy!
Uneventful getting to Cancun from Indy via <?xml:namespace prefix = st1 ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:smarttags" /><st1:City w:st="on"><st1:place w:st="on">Miami-</st1:place></st1:City>yeea baby! Arrive at 12:45, pick up bags, green light and off the get tickets for the <st1:State w:st="on"><st1:place w:st="on">Riviera</st1:place></st1:State> bus. Next one doesn’t leave for 45 minutes so off to the bar for a couple of Pacificos, down those and get two more to go (para llevar) very important phrase we learned last trip . The traffic seems to have increased quite a bit since last year it seems or maybe I am so excited to get to Playa the bus seems to take longer. Probably the latter. Josh is tired so he naps (he was too excited to sleep last night) kinda like the kid on the Disney commercial. We arrive at the bus station and take the short walk to Calle 6 and the beach-Hotel Fusion (formerly Alejari) We are pleased to see that our room is ready-same one we stayed in last year. Alright! The new owners are making changes and improvements to the hotel which are refreshing and needed.

Immediately I am referencing like a rolodex in my brain all the great restaurant suggestions we have received from this forum-what do ya wanna eat first??!! We decide to try Los Carboncitos on Calle 4 in between 5th and 10th. We order the guacamole

(I believe it was the best we had down there) with chips and all the sauces.

Once again this forum is right on. The pumpkin seen salsa was delicious as were the other ones (I also favored the guacamole sauce)

Josh had his first Sol and we had aracherra tacos with frijoles charros also very good as recommended<o:p></o:p>

Then to the playa mart for some cocktail ammo. We pick up some vodka and some Red bull cuz we are tired, but have no desire to nap. We just got here!! Sleep later! We unpacked a little while fueling up on RB and V’s and off down Fifth to take it in and check out some menus. AHHHH Playa we are here…

Gialle Limone looked good-we will have to try that later. Also Tapa’s y Tintos looked interesting. Strolled back down fifth and went to Babe’s to have a mojito. We were a little disappointed because they tasted so sweet. Oh well we love the atmosphere there and it always smells soooo good-off to make another cocktail. Then we traveled to the Beer Bucket and met some people from Minnesota-not peeps but very nice. I know a bunch of Peeps will be arriving in a few days. Had some more Pacificos and went back to the room to refill our cocktails…again. After a while I decided food was necessary and Josh is running on about 4 hours sleep and although fueled a little by the RB and V’s he is starting to fade as am I after a long day of travel. I wanted Pizza Renzo-I heard it was the best. So… we look… and look…and look, but could not find it. I must admit the rolodex of food recommendations in my brain was a little fuzzy so we opted for Pizza Pazza. I had the spinach pizza-it was better than the pepperoni - which is odd cuz pepp is my favorite-but it hit the spot. It was very good, but we were drunk to who knows. Off to bed…TBC
