Funniest thing was later on Mary, the best assistant I could have wished for told me Vanessa had asked her what I like to drink because she wanted to buy me a bottle of my favourite tipple.
Mary's answer, "He'll drink anything that's around"... ![]()

As I take it, both you and Paolo did great! ![]() Now Vanessa, I won't urge to go underwater a.s.a.p., but I'd suggest you go and talk with Paolo soon. I know he's well capable of making you feel comfortable to dive again, and after that you can pick a date. And no matter what: no-one can force you to go if you really don't want to. Anyway: stay positive!

Great work Paulo!
Vanessa, not sure whether this helps you but when I started diving two years ago I had some surges of panic as well. They weren't as bad as the one you had but I had to go up to the surface twice when doing exercises for my brevets - I was close to the surface though so that was not a problem. I went down again immediately (but again: my surges weren't as bad as yours). I absolutely LOVE diving even though I had surges of panic later on again. I concentrated on the fish then and forgot to panic. Just trying to say: it happens to a lot of people and you will feel more comfortable breathing under water once you have been diving more often. Good luck!Andrea Last edited by Andiline; 10-28-2007 at 07:48 AM.. |

perhaps some more preparations before entering the water next time? (it's all mental) close your eyes on the ride out, don't chatter, slow your breathing down, relax, pretend to take a valium. Breathe more deeply, see blue. Relax some more. Get ready early to enter the water, be waiting for the others, ready to get in the water as you breathe deeply and relax some more, eyes closed, seeing blue. Surfacing is not an option, resolve everything on location, as you have the training and the equipment to handle it. You must be convinced of this before you go diving again. Very important: don't let this episode be a barrier to your success. It is perfectly normal, and similar things happened to me starting out. |
