Journalism/Information Revolution
This article ties in loosely with an ongoing meta discussion on multiple threads here about journalism, information and its sources and presentation.
Journalism Revolution is Just Beginning The journalism revolution is only just beginning - MarketWatch By Marshall Loeb, MarketWatch Last Update: 12:01 AM ET Nov 1, 2007 NEW YORK (MarketWatch) -- Most revolutions peter out like wet firecrackers after a short period of time, and most of the leaders who pushed an upheaval eventually wake up to the fact that it was not very radical after all. But forget about all that when contemplating the fate and future of the media in the next -- presumably -- tumultuous decade. The rough shaking up that the media have suffered through in the past 10 years or so, and the different ways in which people now produce and consume information, qualifies as a real revolution. And it is just beginning. As the politically incorrect balladeer Al Jolson used to promise his audiences, you ain't seen nothin' yet. The leading professionals and academics tend to echo Professor Sree Sreenivasan of the Columbia Graduate School of Journalism: "We're going to see as many and as dramatic changes in the next 10 years as the last 10." |

Sounds good, and the commercial media has only itself to blame, if it starts cutting into their profits.
I do hope that it re-activates citizens' awareness that they should be an active part of the political process, rather than just going for the "gotcha" moments. And we are all aware, of course, that Al Gore is at the forefront of this movement, as well as global warming? |
