Back on topic, 2 of my wifes favorie radio stations went all x-mas all the time today Bah Humbug! I think she'll be taking CD's to work until January

We really got into the "Mind the Gap" last year in England The kids have t-shirts, a brolly, some mugs and posters. Actually, we didn't even know those things existed and was trying to figure out a way to make something to bring back home Then we found the store...need I say more?

And quit that "bah humbug!"

Christmas is what you make of it Rissy. Don't let the commercialised aspect get you down. It's a plot to get us to give up Christmas, can't you see?

No more "bah humbuggings" from you missy, or Santy won't let you sit on his lap this year

I know...
We aren't religious though, so Christmas for us really just is a secular holiday, a time to get together with family and have some time off work....I think actually if I were religious I would be even more irritated by the commercialized aspect of it!

You are so right, but you have to just ignore all that crap. It is what you make it! I don't even think about shopping til mid-Dec. I refuse to buy the "in" things for the kids. We actually like to go shopping after xmas and get decortations for next year on sale. I'm too cheap to buy the expensive things, and too broke most of the time . I just love the carols, the concerts, the tv specials, the baking, the craft fairs, the lights and decorations, and the family time.
We lost someone special in our lives 3 years ago this past Sept. That year was the worst Xmas we have ever had. We all moped around, we didn't get together with other family because we were pretty po'd about how the family had dealt with the situation. It was such a sad Xmas. We didn't even have a big meal or even get dressed that day. Every year I buy a special ornament that says something about our year. That year I bought a Santa because our special guy had come to our house one year after the kids had gone to bed and decided to get our oldest daughter who was just starting to not believe. He dressed up and snuck up to her room, woke her up and had a great old convo with her. The next morning she came down to see what he had brought her, there was straw all over from the reindeer, even poop outside with sleigh marks. She was a true believer for a few more years and never did ask who it had been. When he died, some dear friends wrote a note in their sympathy card to always remember our special santa. It was the night of his funeral that we gave her the card to read and she found out the truth. Needless to say our santa ornament is hers to put on the tree every year and it helps us to feel like he is here with us. So, after that horrible Xmas, I have made a vow to myself that I will never have one like that again. We now hang that ornament and share the happy memories and have a wonderful Xmas knowing he is with us in spirit. I guess we just find Xmas a time of year that makes us realize that life must go on and we should be so thankful for what we do have that we don't get wrapped up in all the commercial crap etc. It's a time of year to forget your troubles and celebrate family and friends no matter what you are dealing with and put our differences aside for one day of the year. A few glasses of wine helps things along too!

We have had decorations up for weeks in stores already. But what really hit home was the christmas ads I got in the mail yesterday. They are advertising earlier because of 'market concerns'. I guess it really does come earlier every year from a commercialized aspect

God forbid Christmas be a time to spend with family and enjoy yourself huh?

I do enjoy Christmas, just not until well after the Day of the Dead.

FELIZ DIA DE LOS MUERTOS!.

I'll wish you a Feliz Navidad when it's Christmas time.

I love Dia de los Muertos. Spent that time in Mexico one year, and was so moved by it. Oh, Feliz Navidad

The all-holiday format is not something I mind too much -- although I would prefer it if the stations really dipped into the full range of Holiday selections, instead of just the usual suspects.

We have a station up here that starts on Thanksgiving night, then goes through to Dec 26. It's very sad to tune in on the 27th.

Playa's top stores have had Christmas decorations on sale since about mid-August. Strange things happen here, last year's Nativity real-life display at the Municipal Park had a pig scrounging right next to the very Jewish baby wonder. I'm surprised Israel didn't bomb the f**k out of that one...

I haven't heard a Christmas song yet...although I understand that one station in town is playing them every once in awhile.

But I did see a Christmas commercial for Wal Mart last night!!! It's just crazy...Santa arrives at our local mall on November 10!! When I was growing up he never arrived until the day after Thanksgiving...things are so different now. I love Christmas and love Christmas music....I just wanna enjoy Thanksgiving first.

I think it was silent screen star Harold Loyd who had a Christmas tree in his home year round. And I think I remember reading that Jazz Great Louis Armstrong never had a permanent home. Even when famous and wealthy he would go from hotel to hotel in his never ending tour. His wife would arrive before him and set up a christmas tree, no matter what time of year to make him feel at home. For some people Christmas (decorations, music, celebrations) are less about religon or time of year, but a spirit or feeling that shouldn't be restricted by the calander. IMHO. Besides...Cheri and I love Christmas music!! Anytime.
