In my family, it has always been a tradition to start on the 16th November. I can't wait I wouldn't mind bringing out the music right now actually

Be jolly, happy, and merry. Tis almost the season

What about Christmas trees in the mall before Halloween? That irritates me. At least you can turn off the music, but sometimes a girl just can't avoid a mall

Hey, with the move to deprieve some of us of Christmas trees, I won't complain. I used to complain, but now I'm so grateful we still have the privilege

How was your Halloween?

I heard "Blue Christmas" last week on the way to work last week.
Christmas decorations have been up in the mall for a few weeks !

I just want to just escape to some place tropical and forget all about it.

(I do like Christmas music just not in October).

It was so good I needed a cigarette after it.....heheee.....just kidding. Sort of. Or not.

But Christmas trees in malls BEFORE Halloween? For some reason that stresses me out......I can accept them before Thanksgiving, but Halloween?

I love it!!! I can't wait to start hearing Xmas music around here! I get so ticked off when on Dec 26th the stations stop playing the carols. I am Xmas crazy though, will be decorating my house on Grey Cup weekend instead of watching football! We decortate every room but the bedrooms pretty much, takes at least 2 days to do but we all love it! I find it gets me in the mood to do some baking and start to think about presents etc. Just seems to make everyone feel a bit better about things. A person needs something to look forward to so you can get thru the bad times. We are not a big gift family either, we just love to get together, play games, eat, drink and be merry!! Hopefully creating some traditions that our kids will carry forward to their own families in the future. We still have presents, but we don't buy for extended family, just the 6 of us and our kids draw names and have so much fun trying to find the perfect gift for their sibling. My fav's are the homemade treasures they give me, I'm sure they have a contest to see who can make mom cry the hardest! I think too many people have made Christmas into something that it is not. It is not about what you get or give but who you spend your time with and what you can do to make someone else's day a bit better. Likely why so many people are so bah humbug about it!

I know. Sometimes I wonder why they don't leave the darn things up all year round. I think it was sometime in August when I saw Halloween and Thanksgiving things. Then two weeks ago I saw the Christmas section in Macys, but not the entire store. I kind of woke up this morning thinking "I NEED TO START shopping."

Me too. I won't start playing it until after Thanksgiving. But I do love Christmas, the holiday season, the music, decorations, shopping, parties, friends, family, food, fun, etc. BUT NOT UNTIL DECEMBER

You so sound like us!!! So true. I try to not let the commercial aspect of it get me down, and to keep that "childlike" feeling about Christmas. It's my favourite time of year. Christmas was also my father's favourite time as well, so I honour his memory by keeping up some of the traditions and LOVE the season. Gotta start thinking about the treats I'll bake to give as gifts, the sewing we do (for gifts also), and decorating the house. My daughter woke up this morning and said, "it already feels like Christmas. When can we decorate?",lol

I'm getting the family room chairs reupholstered (needed to do this the last three years), so that is adding to the excitement...the preparation. Yeah, I love Christmas

It seems like it all starts earlier and earlier every fall.
Christmas is just such a busy, over-commercialized, rush-rush-rush and spend-spend-spend time of year.
We don't really get that much into it, but some of it is inescapable.

bah humbug indeed!

Your daughter sounds like mine, except she is off at college. She is the biggest kids at christmas time. We have been baking goodies the past few years and assemblying trays for their staff rooms at the schools and then we take one to the nursing home where my mother in-law lives and pass goodies around to the residents and the kids play the piano. We really enjoy that time as do the residents. They really like hearing the younger kids play even if they screw up. I feel so bad for them as some have no family that live near here and are so lonely. We are not very crafty, so no sewing here, but we just love the feelings that flow around. It was strange though, last March we were in West Edmonton Mall and their decorations were still up, apparantly there was a movie being filmed there or something. That felt out of place to me, I like Xmas to start now, Nov 1, any earlier just takes away from the other holidays.
