Finally saw some coverage of the story on US national news this morning. We're right on it!

By the way, the altruism of the folks on this forum is amazing . I know you don't do it for applause, but nonetheless...

'Deutschland hilft' has sent about 300,000 USD to Mexico today and now they are taking donations for Mexico. If I say they have to use it for the flood in Mexico they can't use it for something else... will donate money immediately....

It is nice to see the kids from the school helping bag despensas and very poor people bringing some candles, and a couple kilos rice or beans, for the people in Tabasco.
If you are in need of a work out, please stop by everyday aproximately 4 tons of food that are comming in need to be bagged weight numbered and carried into the ambulance that takes it to Cancun where they are being airlifted to Tabasco.

Stop by where exactly?? I want to help- not to mention that I need a workout after too much good food in Playa.....

In other news my Ex is being drawn by the military to serve in Tabasco. He told me he and others will be flown there by helicopter in the next days......so help is on the way. At least a little.

Cruz Roja Playa del Carmen Av. Juarez corner Av. 25 at the parking lot. The workload depends on the stuff that comes in, hopefully it will continue to come, thank you mucho.

I just read where a village in Chiapas has been buried by a mud slide. It was caused by what they're calling a "wave" from the swollen river. Several people are missing, no bodies have yet been recovered, and others were able to escape into the jungle. Many homes were destroyed. All of this just breaks my heart. I wish I could go and physically help these people rebuild their lives. I'm sure other ways would be more helpful, though.

The help given by fellow needy Mexicans is breathtaking. Took me a while to get into this thread (though it was another PlayaCountryBoy video at first...) but it's brilliant to learn the many ways one can help.

I simply went to the Municipal Palace and donated some foodstuffs on the way from picking up my truck from WalMart.

'Village disappeared'
Rescue teams were despatched to the community of San Juan Grijalva, where heavy rainfalls caused a hillside to collapse into a river.

Your stories: Flood crisis

Local media reports said the landslide buried many houses and as many as 30 people could be missing.
Some residents are thought to have fled into the hills to escape the advancing wall of mud and debris.
"This village practically disappeared," the Associated Press quoted Chiapas governor Juan Sabines as saying at the scene.

Just read about the village in the german news as well. This is so sad.... Looks like the level of the rivers in the area have gone down a little but they are expecting more rain in the next days...

Just for your info: I got an email yesterday from 'Deutschland hilft', they are now actively asking for donations for Mexico. I've donated to them before so I get those emails when they send them out.

Vanessa and I were there today to help with the donations, will post some pics later, maybe.

Also Claudia and I were thinking of going to Tabasco and making plans to go tomorrow in fact- but both of us heard from different sources today that the situation there is VERY, VERY bad right now (as in getting chaotic and dangerous) so we decided against it. There is no use going down there and not coming back in one piece, so we will just wait until we hear about a better situation.
What my source told me is that assaults are happening, there are violent outbreaks and looting of trecks that come in- Claudia heard similar things from another source from what she told me.

All help is needed as without doubt the reason the situation is deteriorating is that many folks are needing more help and acting out because of it.

I wish we could have gone to help.
