And this is the premier vocalist of our time, though still obscure by most any standard:

Natacha Atlas

Steve

The Irish band Stand performing the song White Elephants. Just heard about them last night from my 25 year old nephew. Kinda like what I heard...

Another tragic early death and someone else sorely missed, bassist extraordinaire Jaco Pastorius with his throwback-yet-ahead-of-their-times Word of Mouth Big Band, chock full o' excellent musicians, on his tune "Liberty City." We shall not look upon his like again.

Takes a moment to kick in, but much more recent is this King Crimson:

Not so this Talking Heads (though it's also with Belew and also takes a moment to kick in):

OH, this one's great, too. Looks like someone has chopped up an entire concert, there.

Not so obscure at all, but a noteworthy live performance!

Elvis Costello & The Attractions on SNL

And then, years later... remember?

Wow! The guy who shot this must have been just behind me! 1988 Hammersmith Odeon, London, unannounced Dire Straits gig with special guest Eric Clapton, a warm-up to the Nelson Mandela birthday concert a couple of days later, with tickets sold only through the Dire Straits fan club (a member of which befriended me and asked me along). I was on the floor in the 8th row, I believe it was, just left of the center of the stage, like this dude but maybe not so far to the left.

Wow...

Lucky is the word for it, I believe! And that same year, same venue, from the first row of the balcony, I was lucky enough to see Stevie Ray Vaughan. Late 1988, so just 2 years before his helicopter went down...

But you have likewise seen some good ones!

Steve
