The truth is that Playa has pretty much outgrown its sleepy little fishing village status.

Without exception it is the newcomer to any locale who wants to purify and sanctify the 'experience'.Any place I have lived it has always been the last in who want to codify and sterilize and block more from coming or enjoying.
If pangas bobbing off the beach are not an intrinsic part of the local flavor I don't know what is.Go to an area where surf or bottom makes them not a factor. There seem to be an awful lot of folks who would truly be better served by the Disney type cultural experience than any real ones.

The waves can also bring sand in - so I disagree with your prediction.
Eventually, maybe. "Before too long". I don't thinks so.

.
I am hardly a newcommer, odds are I was in Playa long before you. Things change, in case you hadnt noticed. Playa is no longer a "sleepy little fishing village". Look over at the McDonalds and Wal Mart if you need to be reminded of that. I also am not advocating codification or sterilization of anything. It would be nice though if there werent 58 boats and their lines all along the beach were thousands of people are trying to enjoy the view, the beach and the ocean.

The are and are also a reminder of what "old" playa used to be like. 15 years ago when we first started comming to Playa, there were less boats than there are now and the ones that were out there were more "clumped" together. That at least is what my memory tells me. Now we have quite a number of boats and they are all over the place, along with the ropes.

Why? I and thousands of others spend thousands of dollars to come and enjoy the beaches, its where the hotels are in case you hadnt noticed. Why should the people that support the area and have pumped tens of millions into the economy have to go elsewhere? Seems pretty nonsensical to me.

What an idiotic statement.

The bottom line is that there has to be a better solution than what is currently happening. There is no reason why the two cannot co-exsist. I am not and have not called for all the boats to be removed, just for a better situation than we currently have.

Terrific-enjoy!Not my cup of tea but I find I can ignore it.

WE (all Playa.info folks) are newcomers whether for 1 week,5years,10 years etc.
Our presence has caused virtually all the changes you notice, whether you perceive them to be for better or worse.Don't support what the boats are there for( diving if diving boat/eating fish locally if fishing boats etc) and they will go away.Don't bitch about the look/intrusion to YOUR world or the smell
