$10 airfare from AUS to CUN promotion by Viva Aerobus

Our local news reported today that Viva Aerobus, http://www.vivaaerobus.com/?lng=2e83...7-8b89101a0cb5, has just gotten Federal approval to fly from Austin to Cancun and Monterrey. They will have a $10 a seat promotion and most flights are expected to be less than $100 each way. One station reported that Viva Aerobus will have daily flights. No flight schedules yet, but they are expected in the next two months.

Viva Aerobus will be building a new terminal at AIBA to handle the flights with no jet ways (this is a discount airline). That means that it could be a pain to fly into Austin and make a transfer, but we need to wait and see if ABIA starts a shuttle service between the terminals.

Using their Monterrey hub, they connect to a lot of smaller market airports in Mexico. This one will be GREAT! It just got a lot easier to fly from central Texas to Mexico.

Just be careful with these "promotional fares" wich airlines use to advertise. A lot of extras, taxes included will be charged and normaly they only offer very limited seats on every flight. Even though, this airline is a very low cost one, kind of Ryanair. I am sure you can save a lot of money going trhu their Monterrey hub.

At $200 a trip, I expect them to charge for baggage, water, food and AC. If FAA regs allow it they will probably make you load your own bags onto the plane. I am sure that the $10 seats will be very limited and on the first couple of flights they operate. I THINK that Viva Aerobus is part of Ryan air, btw.

You are absolutely right about the Monterrey hub. While the Austin/Cancun flight is supposed to be direct, there is a pretty impressive list of cities that they service from Monterrey. To me it looks like one of their main target markets will be Mexican travelers rather than just vacation travelers.
