How awful, Susie and Rick...and according to jevans article, the fact that bragging neighbor is flushing paper is truly the problem-apparently the paper creates a "paper-mache sludge!" (Gag.)
" How much time does it take to clog a filtro? Nobody knows. It depends on how big the fosa septica and filtro are, how many people are using the toiliet and how much paper or other non-biodegradable stuff they’re flushing down there. It could take three years, or five, or ten. If you don’t flush any paper, it could take fifty or more" Who do you get to fix this- is it a plumber or the generic Maya fix-it guys? |

i am sorry this happened to you. I have seen this happen to others, and on a large scale unfortunately. Thankfully I've never had it happen to me. But I understand that our actions will be experienced by others so, best to just pay attention to the rule. Throw the toilet paper in the trash and not the toilet.

Gawd Susie, so sorry to hear about this mess.
A regular flood would be bad enough, but sewerage added to the mix is just plain horrible. I'm so sorry for what you guys are dealing with and what is yet to come manana. Seems like anything worth something is never easy. Best of luck for a speedy solution to this.

Hey Susie, Dori here, friend of Silvergirl, soon to be a Playa newbie....and feeling absolutely AWFUL about the mess you're in, especially after you spent so much time helping Kim with her quest to get me to the awesome beach at Tulum (sp)?
Sending GOOD thoughts and vibes for a speedy resolution to your dilemma! |

Thanks, everyone. Well, new pipe came in to repair the ones they punched through to find the blockage.
Repairs were made, flow seems to be reestablished and the holes in the ground are all filled in. Keep your fingers crossed that this is over and done with for good. Still have cleanup to do in the palapa, but didn't want to do much more until we were sure it was over. Tomorrow will tell.We cleaned ourselves up after all this tonight and went in town for the peep meet. Kinda needed to get away from the smell. |

Not being the Playa or Mexico expert that most of you are, I didn't realize that this was a problem!
I know the odd washroom that had a sign not to flush the toilet paper, I followed the rules, but sorry to say I flushed it everywhere else!! Ris, as for the garbage by the toilet, we have that here in Canada so that to me wouldn't be an indicator. Now I know, will not flush the tp if we ever get back to paradise!!

So how have you delt with the inconsiderate neighbor? I would think that for very little money you could have someone explain things to him in a way that he would never do it again.Otherwise you are just solving the problem and not the issue.

Maybe you can check out somehting like Bio Safe One or something that you can put in the tank to help eat up all the nasty and keep it as clean as possible.........When your coming up with new names for the place I am sure you want to stay away from Pallapa De Caca.....Good Luck......
