Blue Spa
I've been meaning to write about this place for awhile, but keep forgetting (or subconsciously want to keep it to myself). I've been going for pedicures to a little place called Blue Spa for the past 2.5 years. The owner, Mari, is a lovely woman who is actually INTO her job...she doesn't just "go through the motions" like some workers in nail shops. I get the "spa pedicure," which is 210 pesos and includes a fantastic exfoliation and foot/lower leg massage. Mari also has a collection of cute little stickers you can put on your big toe (stars, fish, flowers, etc.). I bite my nails, so don't get manicures, but she does these, too.
I also get waxed here, and Mari also gives me a relaxation massage. Her massages aren't "deep tissue," but rather for relaxation, and I just about always fall asleep during it, so I'd call that relaxing. The massages are, I think 300 pesos or 330 pesos (it's been awhile) for an hour. Waxing is 80 or 100 pesos for brows and 100 for arms (yes, I'm hairy, dammit). Mari sanitizes her tools in an autoclave, and it's the only one I've seen in the nail shops here (there might be shops with them, but I've not seen them). I've never gotten any fungal weirdness from her pedis. ![]() For locals, she also sells some really great aromatherapy oils and skin care products. She has a catalog, you place an order, and she gets it in about a week. Blue Spa is located out of the tourist area, on Calle 26 between avenidas 25 and 30. It's closed on Sundays. It is open from about 10 am to about 7 pm, and the phone number is 879-4526. Just wanted to share this insider info with my Playa.info peeps! Oh, and btw, Mari doesn't speak English, but I've told her she can call me anytime for translation help (she understands my abysmal Spanish!). |

BTW I'm realizing this makes me sound REALLY self-indulgent with the spa treatments. I can't go very often, but whenever I can afford it and have the time, I do spend my money with Mari. I very much LOVE spa treatments, they are so essential for my sense of well-being and self-care (and if you saw the state of my feet right now, you would see that I desperately need to go soon).

I stopped by Blue Spa tonight to say hi to Mari, who was excited to hear she had her own thread on Playa.info. She made me write down the website address and the "instructions" for how to find her thread, even though she probably won't understand what we've written. I let her know that people might be dropping by and she's ready! We are going to try to get some pics so people know what and whom to look for.
Laura, they are the Swiss Just products you're looking for, I confirmed that today. |

Hi Heather, I'm totally going to see Mari during my "princess" birthday week coming soon. Can you enlighten us with some Spa Spanish?
massage = masaje manicure = manicure? pedicure = pedicure or pedi? deep-cleansing facial = ?? Any other good ones you have up your sleeve? |

You have to book that one ahead, though, as she is not there all the time. You got everything else right, however. Oh, and Mari's massages are 350 pesos, she asked me to correct that. Let's chat prior to Princess Week, shall we? Someone I missed out on my Princess Week in September, so that may have to be remedied. |
