The name of the hotel is banned from this forum because of past issues between the hotel and James & Anna, the owners of this forum. Maybe some of the Playa locals can advise you whether or not the hotel is closed. Have you tried contacting the hotel directly?

it is banned (the only name banned from this forum) because the current management (do they own it? I don't know), during their illegal seizure of some properties they did not own, threatened us for allowing the affected parties to post their testimonials on this forum.

It is an establishment that should be avoided by everyone going to Playa. It is a cancer on the town.

I believe you can read the whole story here.

I figured I'd let you fill in the blanks James.

Could you link me to the reports of its closure, please? I don't think it's closed.

I'm confused?? I just went to the banned website and it lists the beach hotel still which to my understanding is now under new management (thank God) and called Playa Palms right???... That's as well where the new webcam hangs.

Ahh, did a sample reserve check and can't seem to get a date to stay on the beach. Are the other two Banneds and restaurant run by the same people? Just wonderin'...

It does appear that their website has not yet been updated with the information that the units now known as Playa Palms are no longer a part of the Blue Parrot hotel. The pictures are even still there. Seems like that might be a little confusing to people booking there.

There is only one Blue Parrot.

I would have to say that's pretty much false advertising.

I checked out the Playa Palms last week, they are doing some work to the place, but it looked like people should be able to stay there any day (there might have even been people staying there?)...but it looked very nice! I also have the brochure .

Banned Hotel "Closing"

To clear up any confusion. The picture of the hotel on Trip Advisor is NOT being managed by this company. It is under new management and name: Playa Palms. The hotel is open. Playa Palms Beach Boutique Hotel | Playa del Carmen, Riviera Maya, Mexico | Home. None of the BP hotels are ocean front. Hope this clears up this issue.

I have a friend who has stayed at "Playa Palms" and had an excellent time. Stay there not the other, yucky place.

I think this has been made pretty clear but I will chime in with further clarification, as I understand it:

There is a poor management company in town that used to manage 3 hotels, 2 off the beach and one on the beach (the original). Recently, the owners of the beachfront hotel realized that the management wasn't very good and changed management and renamed the hotel to Playa Palms. The poor management company, being as poor as it is, never removed the property from their website. The property is under different management now and the old, Banned, company has no involvement AT ALL in the property. The poor management company still manages 2 other properties in town, neither are beachfront.

The hotel you heard was closed is very open, even while currently being renovated, as the Playa Palms.

Wow. I've just managed to read about the whole story. I very nearly bought one of those units back before it was built. I think I still have the info package in a box in the attic. I had no idea all this had gone on.
