Trip Report from Goddessbluez & Silvergirl's Girlie Girl Trip Nov 12-16
Girlie Girl Trip report from Goddessbluez (Dori) & Silvergirl (Kim) …………
Happy Thanksgiving everyone! Sorry it's taken me so long to get this report going.....hope you like it!!! So, here we are - two good friends carrying 6 big suitcases (yes, 6!), with all the essentials plus goodies for the Pet Shelter and for friends, and Kim (being the diva that she is) needing her TWO king sized pillows…..praying for safe flights and awesome beach weather - yes, we’re ready for 5 days and four nights in Playa - but is Playa ready for us?? ![]() Backing up…..When Kim made a surprise phone call to me and proposed this quick trip to Playa, my initial reaction was NO WAY! I’ve got a demanding day job, a night job singing in a band, a husband & two kids, and my Mom was just out of the hospital, recovering from a serious MRSA infection. How could I possibly run away to Mexico?? But the more she talked about it (she can be very convincing), the more intrigued I became…the more I realized I needed to relieve a little stress…..and when she introduced me to all you nice folk on www.playa.info, well, that was it…I was hooked! My final answer - BOOK THE TRIP! ![]() Day 1: Now, usually I’m going to bed at 2:30 am after a late gig, not getting up at 2:30 am to drive to an airport. But hey, we’re talking Mexico here, so I was up for it and off we went. Smooth ride into Providence, and we settled in to wait for our flight to be called. ![]() On the plane to Charlotte, we snuggle in for a little shut eye as our bird takes off and the sun begins its glorious rise into the east. Easy connection to our next flight and before you can say blueberry marguerita, we’re flying over the warm blue waters of the Caribbean, with the peninsula in sight. We’re here!!!! ![]() Kim, being the seasoned traveler that she is, made all the travel arrangements and after cautioning me not to make eye contact with any of the vendors or baggage handlers, we were whisked off from the airport and driven to Playa by a pleasant and talkative driver, Jesus. Kim did a great job practicing her Spanish with him, I understood maybe every 5th word! But no worries, we were on our way to our home away from home…… Check in, unpack, freshen up and we’re off to visit with some friends Kim made the last time she and her husband Kenny had visited Playa. Luna Blue is first on the list, where we chat with Tony and Cheri, then off to La Ranita to say a quick hello to Jez. ![]() At La Ranita, Kim buys a Tshirt for her hubby and we wander over to find Vanessa (Lolabella) with her laptop (cruising the forum, of course!) We chat for awhile and then make plans to meet later at the peep meet at La Pirata. Then we realize….we’re starving! And thirsty!! It’s time for those frosty margueritas we’ve been craving…so, off to Babe’s for drinks and a late lunch/early dinner. ![]() We have time for one more marguerita at Fusion before the peep meet - yummy! The wind is blowing up a gale, but Dori has to stick her toes in the sand and surf anyway- yes, girl, it’s true, you’re in MEXICO!! ![]() more of day 1 coming up!! ![]() Dori Last edited by goddessbluez; 11-22-2007 at 08:36 PM. Day 1, continued.............
Day 1, continued........
Peep Meet Time!! We get gorgeous and get going - gotta be there by 7:00. Of course, we’re running late, (all that gorgeous takes time!) and then when we’re on 5th, we realize we forgot all the goodies Kim has lugged down from the states: pet treats for Andy & Jen at the Pet Shelter and a huge bag of Reese's Peanut Butter Cups she brought for Tyra. Hurry back to the condo, grab the loot, and we decide to grab a cab cuz now we’re REALLY late! Well, we pick the one cab driver in Playa that has no idea where La Pirata is located - we must have driven 10 miles to go 4 blocks! Anyway, we finally get there and meet all the peeps - Dave & Kim (Frow13), Rick (Babaloo), Vanessa (Lolo Bella), Joana, Kathy & Dan (Kathy.web), Andy & Jen, Malcolm (Jenmal) Angela and her husband Michael (AJS), Tyra (Tyramania), Judy (JudyBlueEyes) and Steve (Baked) & Tony. (sorry if we’ve forgotten anyone!) Great fun, laughs, drinks, and the wind was blowing. And did those men ever get that boat up to shore??? ![]() ![]() ![]() Even though we’re starting to feel the effects of the dreaded travel day, we decide to stop by Siesta Fiesta for last call and a little taste of Chris Bollister (well, I can dream, can’t I??) and his music. Tyra and Judy join us for a bit, then we sneak out during the break dancers show…starting to lose steam, we start our long walk back to the condo, grabbing some energy food along the way (a slice each from Pizza Pazza, yum, then a fabulous brownie to split from Ah Cacao, double yum!) Just past Ah Cacao, a crowd has gathered and we all hold our breath as a frightened little chiuauau teeters on the edge of a roof as its’ owner frantically tries to grab it before it falls to a certain death! Kim can’t look and we edge away, then sigh with relief when the crowd roars a hooray! as the little doggie falls into the arms of it’s owner. A positive ending to an absolutely awesome day…… stay tuned for Day 2 - our Tulum adventure with our mystery man…………..
