A Trip Report..Aventura Spa Palace 11/19-11/23

Ok Let me take a stab at a trip report and see I'll see if I can measure up to the standards I've seen here.

We started our day on Monday 11/19 waking up to a driving rain storm...no worries, we're headed to sunny Mexico! We arrive at Philly airport to be greated by an ever so freindly USAirways employee who snaps at me because I followed the directions of the E-mail telling me to check in online! "never do that!" she barks..."it causes us all sorts of head aches!" No worries I think...we're headed to sunny Mexico! 7:00 arrives and it's boarding time! We get on the airplane and to our surprise, it is practically empty! There were only about 50 people on board and they were in the center section (Boeing 757). Sandy & I had the aft section to ourselves except for one other person. Smooth departure and pretty soon we are winging our way over the Gulf. I looked out the window and elbowed Sandy with "HEY LOOK WHALES!" She fell for it for a second anyway!

Arriving into CUN, we zip through immigrations and snag our bags. Again...an empty airplane made for quick work of the process. At the customs desk, I push the button and get.......RED LIGHT! So I flop the suit cases up on the counter...after having to demonstrate all the sex toys, he finally gets to Sandy's bag Just kidding! He gives a cursory look through and away we go. We run the gauntlet of the time share crowd and meet the Best Day Travel folks outside and wait for our van. About a fifteen minute wait and we're on our way.

I should say that the rain we left in Delaware seemed to have followed us down! Grey overcast and threatening skies greeted us. But...no worries, we're in Sunny Mexico!

So away we drive with three other people in the van. about a mile away from the airport the heavens unload on us! Approaching PDC, the driver shifts over to the side road and it is more of a river than a road...easily 6 inches of standing water. It's about this time he decides to turn his wipers on full time only to have the driver's side blade go flopping all over the windshield. He jumped out in the middle of traffic and a driving rain and wedged something in place to hold it. We dropped off a couple at the RIU and then it was our turn. The rain subsided somewhat just as we pulled into the ASP driveway!

Check in was a breeze and we were guided very smoothly over to the "guest relations" desk where the kindly gentleman took time to explain the set up of the resort and what was included...he then of course asked us what time we would like to take our "orientation tour" the next day. We passed and headed for our room. Off to the South side and this is what greeted us:

Let me back up a minute and say that just as we were finishing up with guest relations, our friends walked in! They had arrived the day before. We chatted a bit and Jack suggested that when we get to our room we check out the view. If not happy, then arrange for a new room...that's what they did and the Bellhop took care fo everything right there on the spot. They ended up with a new room overlooking the beach rather than a view of the trees.
We got to our room and the view was fine

So, we got settled in and met our friends at the North Lobby to head for lunch. El Greco was the place to eat it seemed. We had no sooner settled in to eat when I looked over to my right to see another couple we knew heading our way! They had been part of our origianl group planning to make the trip but had backed out...they booked at the last minute but kept it a secret to surprise us! That they did too!

After lunch, we wandered about for a while. The rain was continuing to fall so it limited us a bit. We ended up exploring the site.

We ate the first night at the truely Mexican "Pizza and Pasta" restaraunt

Did they have any problem with the batteries? You know, this could be part of a sticky or an instructional thread on trip planning. ... Just kidding.

Bring on some photos (but not necessarily of sex toys).

Great report so far; you are setting your own standard!

Day Two:
Woke to a beautiful sunny day. Breakfast at Mo Mo No Hana and then off to the lagoon

We stayed there for about 30 minutes then headed up to the pool

Sufficiently fried, we headed inside to get ready for dinner
We ate at Mo Mo No Hana this night

After dinner, we ended up in the Thai Bar where the ladies shared a bed and we sat at the bar trying to find a drink that actually contained some alchohol!

This was also the night of the Peep Meet over at the Beer Bucket...we sadly did not make it! Everyone just wanted to hang at the resort.

Day Three:
Another beautiful day greeted us and we all met at Mo Mo No Hana for breakfast...this became the ritual for the week. They had really excellent omelletes!
This was spa day for the wimmin folk so we headed out to the pool until their appointment time

Here's Jack showing his better side!

Spa time arrived and the women headed indoors leaving us men folk to the wild life that inhabits the pool area.
We observed Newlywedus Humanicus a plenty and of course we would have been remiss in our manly duties to not point out to one another when a young bikini clad vixen happened along the walkway! All eyes were averted I assure you!
We were conversing on the benefits of replacing my existing Cobra engine with a stroked 427 Windsor when an impromptu game of Thong Pong struck up directly in front of us. For the uninitiated, Thong Pong is when the ping pong player with her back to you is clad in a red thong bikini! We of course kept close tabs on this game so as to ensure no violation of rules occured!
Just as the sun was becoming a little too much for us to handle and our hearts could take no more of the Thong Pong, the skies opened up again. No worries it was lunch time anyway! The women reappeared all aglow from their spa treatments and revelling with stories of how well they were treated and we headed off to eat.
Dinner that night was La Trattoria, the Italian restaraunt.

Day Four:
Another horribly sunny day!
Breakfast...yes Mo Mo No Hana for omelletes!
Then back out to the pool.
This day the women did water aerobics

And Jack played Volleyball

I was the unofficial line judge and so had to remain seated beside the ppol with drink in hand
We stayed at the pool the entire day today. we watched a wedding party arrive...Wow so many beautiful people in the same party! There should be a law!
Dinner was again at La Trattoria as we found they had the best food and service.

Friday morning came way too fast and we all met for a final breakfast and headed off to the airport.
We deiced to have a sandwich at Bubba Gumps and halfway through the meal, I glanced up at the screen to see out flight was boarding! An hour before schedule! We left Jack and Jana some money and ran to the gate. We were in the last gorup of about 10 people to board the already full airplane and left 30 minutes early. I'm glad I looked at the monitor!

All in all we had a wonderful time. The Aventura Spa Palace is amazing! Service is outstanding. We all agreed, the food left something to be desired..especially of a resort of this caliber. The drinks...well no two drinks ever tasted the same and the liquor was obviously watered down. Jack ordered a Jack& Coke (no pun intended) and the bartender asked him if he wanted it strong or weak. Strong of course. He watched him fill the glass 3/4 full with Jack and just a spot of coke...Jack said it was one of the weakest drinks he ever had!
But again, it was a wonderful time spent with good friends. Wish we could have made the peep meet...again sorry Amy.

Nice trip report. Thank you for not waiting days between posts of your report. I love to read trip reports that are completed in one day. Nice that all your friends could take the trip with you. Seems like you all had a lot of fun.

Really enjoyed the report. Too bad you didn't make it to the bucket. Those peep meets are a blast!

Never forget the sunscreen on the inner arm.........

That's why you have to lather the sunscreen on before in the privacy of your room so you avoid those stripes. I've had many stripes over the years; I call them ice cream...vanilla(never sees the sun), chocolate(already tan) & strawberry(ouch!)
