why do mexician blankets shrink so badly???

You think i would of learn't my lesson the first time. When i was in acapulco years back i bought my 1st mexician blanket. Not knowing better when i got home i washed it and put it in the dryer, well low and behold when it came out of the dryer it was half the size!!!!! So a 2 years ago i decided to buy another one. I have been on my best with remembering to hang it to dry, well yesterday not thinking, i decided to put it on damp dry for 20 min just to take some of the mositure out of it but not dry it. Well it dryed it and it was HALF the size!!!! I couldn't believe it, i did it again!!!! Thanks god we are going back this Jan and i will once again get another one and hopefully remember to NEVER dry it at all!
why do they shrink so bad?

Hmmmmm. I've washed mine many times and it hasn't shrunk. Are you washing it in hot water?

i wash it with cold water and the dryer setting was only a 15-20 min damp dry cycle that don't use heat. The first blanket i washed it in warm water and put in the dryer under a reg heat cycle so it shrank big time. SO i bought a new one 2 years ago, knowing not to put it in a heat cycle. Well who knew that a damp cycle would still shrink it??? I don't think it's the wash cycle at all it the drying .

1/2 blanket

Same here, I wash mine all the time and they hardly shrunk at all over the years. Maybe if you wet them again and try stretching them when they are damp. (like we use to for jeans). Josee

I've washed mine in hot water (because my dogs love them) and I've dried them on high for an hour and they've never shrunk on me...well, maybe slightly but certainly not to any degree that is noticeable...especially 1/2 the size!

Possible that it depends on the quality of the blankets? Haven't washed mine yet but I'd probably handwash them in cold water.

i thought i was getting a better blanket too when i bought as he had 3 different ones. one of them was thin and harder, the other one was thin and soft and mine was thick and soft. I wanted a thick one and i though the thick ones were better? maybe not? or i just got fooled? what did you pay for yours that haven't shrunk? this way i will keep my head up better this Jan when serching for a new one.

blankets

We have several and we paid anywhere from 3x$10.00 (a while back) to 10.00 each. None have shruk much. We use them on the beach and usually we take them to a lavanderia just before leaving and it's all nice and clean.

Next time, find out what it is made with...Cotton, or wool...and ask the vender how to wah it to keep it from shrinking... or send it out to a dry cleaner.

so cotton will shrink over wool? I asked last time and he said no problem to wash it and dry it as i told him about my previous blanket. I willa sk again and maybe i'll get a honest reply or explained which one is better to prevent them from shrinking.
