Lawyers with nothing to do
There is a little town in the state of Maine that has a local dairy in the hot seat. You see a few lawyers are calling into question why a local dairy left out one of the ingredients listed as eggs in eggnog. Go figure

You'd think the EGG in eggnog would make that pretty obvious? On that note, people sue for anything and everything these days, this really doesn't suprise me....if it will be profitable to them they will do it.

Of course people die on a regular basis due to allergic reactions to non-listed ingredients in products.
But hey, all lawyers are scum. I wonder, however, what life would be like living in a country where all businesses can do whatever the hell they want without any fear of any legal retribution because there were no such things as civil lawsuits... What a safe and wonderful environment in which to raise a family! Why don't y'all that are always complaining about "those damn lawyers" move to a country like that and THEN lets talk about how terrible lawyers and lawsuits are. K? |

What I see happening, however, is that people tend to look for the eggceptional case (suing for not listing egg in eggnog), and then generalizing to a broader indictment of lawyers and lawsuits. Happens all the time, and really chaps my hide. For example, if an item ran in the news about a director of an English school found sexually harassing a student. Wouldn't it irk the bejesus out of you when people start commenting... "Oh, there goes another educator trying to schtupp a student... Oh all those teacher types are always trying to get into their students' pants!" Bottom line - there are some greedy lawyers and plaintiffs that file some pretty dumb lawsuits. There are VASTLY more honest lawyers with integrity who represent legitimate clients with legitimate claims. But don't you know the defense bar has a FIELD day using those "one in a million" stupid lawsuits to paint ALL lawyers and their clients as greedy little pigs trying to get rich for nothing. I recently represented a family that was run off the road (and sustained severe injuries) by a woman who blew almost three times the legal limit. Man, I feel TOTALLY guilty for representing that family in that case. My clients should have known better than to be driving in a city that had a bar in it, right? Several years ago, I represented a dad whose 6 year old son was run over by a delivery van and killed. I feel bad about getting compensation for the dad and the sister. I mean - the business that owned that van had business to do!!! Its the kids fault for getting in the way of COMMERCE! In both of these cases, my ability to recover a reasonable judgment on behalf of these clients was substantially hampered by the fact that jurors in this state are SOOOO brainwashed by the insurance industry's PR machine "tort reform," "the 3 million dollar McDonalds cup of coffee," etc. Its a national problem for trial lawyers, but is particularly bad in Texas. |

Was someone harmed by not listing egg in the ingredients? I can see it being a problem if someone was allergic to eggs, decided he'd like some eggnog and found a brand of eggnog that did NOT contain eggs (he thought), drank it and got sick. Has that happened in this case?
