Mideast Peace talks-Syria is in. (political)

Will anything come of this? It would take compromise that these hard headed stubborn people have been unwilling to give thus far. We can only hope.

Well... the thread, at least, is going nowhere. And I certainly can't bump no Middle-East summit.

Syria's attendance is a big step. The conference will focus on permanent solutions, rather than baby steps. This is a good read.

Hamas is already sounding of saying it doesn't feel obligated to abide by any of the summit's decisions.
Oh, the opportunities missed in the past when more support wasn't given to far more moderate Palestinian governments...

Hamas will never be happy. As a terror group, there only desire is to wreak havoc and kill Jews. If the Arab countries that actively support or turn a blind eye to Hamas change their attitude, that group will become a footnote in history.

Though I doubt there will be any real breakthroughs, it's at least an opportunity to get some minimal dialouge going again, and that's a start. There's not a chance in hell for any peace over there until the Palestinian issue is resolved.

I wonder why this thread keeps sinking. Could it be that someone might have to say something good about Bush, the first American President to state permanent solutions to the Palestinian/Israeli problem as a goal, rather than incremental steps that just lead to more of the same?

Could it be that the summit is not until Tuesday, and there's really not much to discuss without a report of its efforts? Everyone has agreed that Syria's participation is a good thing...

Why does everything have to be about hating Bush?

Just curious. As if we never discuss things before they happen. The very fact that the Arab League is attending, for example, is news.

If this were a meeting that the Bush administration was boycotting, I can guarantee we would be talking about it, beforehand.

BINGO!

Besides...I believe a number of us from the cabal have already chimed in!

Actually, I think it is "sinking" perhaps because we all mostly agree....ya think?

Sure we do. You just continue to insist that no one wants to discuss any positive accomplishments of this administration and I disagree. Do you find liberals so childish we'd begrudge the handing out of kudos when they are warranted?
