Going crazy watching air ticket prices
Every winter we visit the USVI/BVI and Mayan Riviera (we love Playa and Akumal) our tickets are still out there somewhere. Who would have thought that it would be cheaper to go Tortola than to Mexico, never before have we seen ticket prices higher for Mexico, whatsup? Still working on it, yes, we will be there.
We live 2-5 hours from any major airport, I am just bumming cause I usually have this in the bag by now so I can have my sleeping spot confirmed also. Just had to moan and groan a little. |

Good price on the tickets, we got ours in Aug or Sept, and they were only about 35-40 cheaper per ticket. We almost always find our best prices on nw. Charters are not nearly as cheap as they used to be. Plus, your chances of being delayed in Cancun on the way back are much less

![]() Staying AI or not AI makes no difference. The taxes are on the airline ticket, has nothing to do with the hotel or type of hotel. Taxes also vary depending on which airport you depart from, some cities have higher taxes than other. |

We paid $715 for two roundtrip tickets from KC to CUN in early March via Atlanta on Delta - that included all the taxes and fees. I found the fare before my travel agent and he didn't believe me when I told him. Once he saw it was legit, he booked it immediately. We had to stay a day more than we planned and fly home on Monday rather than Sunday to get the cheaper fare but if you're going to spend the money anyways, why not get another day of vacation out of the deal?
Keep watching the fares, they fluctuate constantly. Surely you'll find a cheap one... |

![]() ![]() ![]() wow - that seems pretty steep, esp since it is still off-season, no? We have never paid more than abt. $400 pp out of Chicago (ORD, MDW, MKE), and that was just for last week's Thanksgiving trip. Then again, we don't travel to mexico during peak holiday times, either. Our average is probably about $350 includiing taxes. Best price so far was a last minute deal (abt 8-10 days notice?) via Funjet (air only) out of MKE for $99 r/t last January. |

We recently bought our tickets for next summer from Washington DC to Cancun, nonstop RT on Delta for $345, but all the other prices were nearly twice that. That price still stands, but for another person I checked the same summer dates out of Atlanta on Delta and they are over $600. Seems Delta has some good fares, but it is hit or miss.

Comparing airfares from different cities, on different carriers, for different times of the year is like comparing........Playa to Cancun!
![]() It really can't be done. The airfare you find also has a lot to do with how full the plane is - the more full the plane, the class of service changes, the higher the fare. Weekend departures are typically higher than Tues-Wed. departures, holidays more expensive, etc. Load YAPTA on your computer and track the prices that way, and when you get an alert that the price has dropped, buy.
