Favorite childrens book
My Fathers Dragon series. Three books that are an incredibly vivid and exciting read to a 4-6 year old, or for a 7 to 8 year old to read to himself.
Okay...I admit it....Captain Underpants Pooh A Wrinkle in Time Dune Harry Potter series One I really can't stand is Junie B. Jones...nothing like the main character botching english. |

But is it still spooning if it is true? It really is one of my favorite children's/young adult books (of course not the only one, but I couldn't help myself )Here are some others - in random order: The City of Ember, Jeanne DuPrau The King of Elfland's Daughter, Lord Dunsany From the Mixed Up Files of Mrs. Basil E. Frankweiler by E.L. Konigsburg Mrs. Frisby and the Rats of Nimh by Robert C. O'Brien A Wrinkle in Time, Madeline L'Engle The Hobbit, JRR Tolkien The Giver, by Lowis Lowrey The Lion, The Witch and the Wardrobe, CS Lewis Last edited by gingele; 11-30-2007 at 12:21 PM. |

LOVED the Nancy Drew series.
Encyclopedia Brown. My Side of the Mountain. Island of the Blue Dolphins. Harriet the Spy and its sequel. From the Mixed-Up Files of Mrs. Basil E. Frankweiler The SHerlock Holmes series Mr. Popper's Penguins made me cry the first time I read it. There was a series by Joan Aiken that I really liked, but could not get either of my girls interested in ... one in the series was Wolves of Willoughby Chase ... the series was about a stowaway on a Nantucket whaling ship, and her adventures at sea and on Nantucket. There was another series that I loved, about a family of kids ... one of the books was The Four-Story Mistake ... another neither of my girls took to, but I read those again and again! One book I ABSOLUTELY HATE is Shel Silverstein's "The Giving Tree." I kept yelling at that freakin' tree to knock that pig unconscious with a falling branch. That book was NOT about selfless giving, it was about martyrdom. Thank you. Last edited by MWC; 11-30-2007 at 12:14 PM. Reason: Oops! Forgot a couple |

![]() ![]() ![]() I read it to Ryan when he was 4... and when I read books, I use character voices, so at the end my tree's voice was all creaky and sad and old... when we got to the very end, I looked up at Ryan... and his lip was trembling and he was blinking furiously and he opened his mouth, then closed it, took a deep, wobbly breath and yelled, "WELL WHAT DID HE NEED A BOAT FOR, ANYWAY??" ![]() ![]() ![]() poor baby |

What kinda kid were you? I didn't pick up Dune until my teens - can't imagine that most kids would have the patience for that one (and I was a big sci/fi fantasy geek, even at a young age).

I loved The Little House Series... all Judy Blume books... the Encyclopedia Brown books...
in 3rd grade I read The Exorcist... wouldn't list it as a favorite, but my reading level moved up a notch and a year later I was "borrowing" my mom's Sidney Sheldon novels... |
