Online check-in at Royal PDC - soooo tricky!

Check-in at 00:01 was my thought, although that would mean waking up before 7:00 on my first day of vacation ( I am in the Coldlands, I mean, the Netherlands ).

Of course that the Royal online check-in didn't recognize my name, tried a million different combinations.

Frustrated I call the hotel. Reservations Desk closed, Front desk says he cannot help. I insist, there HAS to be someone that can help me. Right?

An american gets the phone, understands my desperation, types for a minute and gives me a reservation number. And voilá, I logged in.

I booked an oceanview suite, I want a KingBed, no smoking. Although the hotel is not fully booked, the choice is minimal. Some corner rooms available ( small balcony ), ground floor ( no privacy ), smoking ( allergies ). I manage to get what I consider my second option, room 338. By the way, there is a very useful map available in a previous thread here.

I notice that the views pictured on the room is not accurate, since all the rooms from the same block have the same view.

But I got my room, king, non smoking, with apparently good views.

Ah, by the way, the "name" on the reservation was A Mrs / B Mr. I would NEVER have guessed...

We were there in October and had room 339. We thought it was great, perfect distance between the beach, pool and lobby. Great view, plus you have a larger balcony than we did. I think you will be more than happy with it. Have great time!!

Has anyone else had trouble with the onl-line check in? I am checking in this week. If we do it two days before, I assume we can start at midnight Playa time. Is that correct?

I started trying at 00:01 Playa's time. It is a nice idea to have the front desk phone at hand. I didn't have the phone, so I tried the reservations number, but instead of 7340 in the end, I dialed 7300, and asked for the front desk.

There were 2 rooms available in the "block" 339 and 338. They don't show the balcony ( size and if it has a hammock or not ) but from the pictures I saw on tripadvisor I imagined that 338 would have a hammock and also better view.

I will keep an eye tomorrow to see if there are new rooms available, although I am quite sure 338 is a great one. Would only trade for 353/352 ( closer to the ocean ).

Good luck!

It is correct. The trouble with the check-in is to get in, after that, all goes well. Its just the way you must enter both names that are on the reservation. Personnally, I had some help from an Air Canada Vacations agent over the phone, she helped me all the way until I was able to get in.
Very, verrrrrrrrry nice hotel, would go back anytime

Room 338 does have a larger balcony with a hammock. The views would be almost identical as I could touch the 338 balcony from 339. One advantage of 339 is that it is on the end and only has a room on one side, this may help that room be a little quieter. Also if you are wanting a king, 338 may be 2 doubles, and 339 a king bed. I think it alternates 339- king, 338- two doubles, 337- king and so on. Here is the view from our balcony:

and also

I wouldn't get too worried about the room, you'll have a great time.

Wow, thanks for the pictures!!!

The bed thing also got me confused. In the map posted here, 338 has 2 doubles, but when I was choosing online, it appears as a king. I hope that the hotel changed the bed recently, and not that it is a check in error, but I will soon see, right?

I am still impressed with the view, as I thought that the building on the right would somehow block a lot more the oceanview.

I am all packed, anxious as hell. I am leaving for Amsterdam now as we will have to sleep in the airport due to the early flight.

I will leave Amsterdam with 3 degrees Celsium and will arrive in Playa with almost 30. Life CAN be good sometimes

Everything was super!

We just arrived. WOW... I loved the hotel, the room, everything!

The room was great, great view, king bed, third floor, not noisy, and it is exactly as they show on the pictures of their website!

We had champagne and cake twice, lots of towel art, names on the screen on check in and check out...

I will be back again, hope soon...

We're going as part of a group of 3 couples in 4 days, and I'm a little anxious about the online check-in, specifically on whether we'll be able to get into it. I've been designated the person who will make the arrangements for everyone. So I have a few questions...

-What time can I begin the process? We leave on Saturday, so will it be available at 12:01 am on Thursday?

- What is the phone number of the resort in case I have to call? I can't find it on their website.

- I note that someone above used Air Canada Vacations and had some guidance from them. We are also going with them, so I'm wondering what they were able to provide you that helped the process along.

- I'd like to get the three rooms together. Is this going to be difficult?

Thanks in advance!

1. Yes, it is suppose to work from 12h01, 48 hours before.
2. Official Web Site - THE Royal in Playa del Carmen Hotel 1-800-760-0944
3.I had some guidance from Air Canada Vacations because I had difficulty entering the Check-In in Line and they helped me They were very helpful and nice. The problem is how to enter the names, you have to enter both names if you are 2 in the room. First and last names.
4. For the rooms beiing together, it depends on availabity.
Beautiful hotel
