Here are the new pics.... there are so many small, funny things you can notice in Paris...

Le Moulin Rouge (The Red Mill)

Loved this carroussell... I remember pictures like this as I bought them about 30 years ago when I first went to Paris....

Montmarte...

Who do you think is this for????

The 'butt' of Sacre Coeur

He is guarding the entrance of Sacre Coeur

That dove is watching out over Paris...

Didn't go inside...

Thunderstorm coming up over La Defense

I've always loved those shops. There are lots of them near Centre Pompidou.

Centre Pompidou

The fountain with sculptures of Niki de Saint Phalle next to Centre Pompidou.

You definitely should go there. On Montmarte which is the hill around Sacre Coeur you still feel like being in a small village. There are picturesque little streets and some buildings look like they are VERY old. Guess I will have to ask my new colleague Daniele more about it since she has lived on Montmartre all her life (Jacko, did you meet her... ). And I can't resist taking pics in La Defense where the mirror-effect of the buildings is so fascinating...

Let me know if you need any info. I am going there again on sunday and will be staying all of next week. So there will be more pics next week. And I know this will not be my last time in Paris...

When I arrived today it was fortunately not raining as my colleague Daniele has predicted. I reached my hotel in record time. It was strange because when I reached the station Les Halles where I have to change Metro lines I saw about 15 security guys/policemen (it's mostly army here in Paris - have gotten used to them). And when I went towards my new metro I saw three black guys coming from that direction, seeing all the army guys, stopping dead, turn around and go back in the direction where they had come from. They looked harmles... will probably never find out why they were afraid...

Just put my stuff in the hotel and then went into the city again to explore it some more. Went off at Gare St. Lazare and walked back towards Centre Pompidou. The Place Bastille looks actually NOTHING like something that is historically important... the opera is modern and not old or historic at all. Will upload pics when I am back... I just explored the area a little bit and went into side streets that looked nice. Here is one pic I like so much that I already want to show it to you...

That was a window of a 'dessous'-shop (and there was NO real person behind that goose... ).

This was my first week with the people of my department and nobody needed to ask if I am happy in that department. I am afraid a lot of people couldn't work as we were giggling a lot...

Here are a couple of pics I shot during the days there....

You wouldn't think this is Paris, wouldn't you?

When you come to Place de la Bastille you expect very old buildings with lots of history. What you find there is this though:

Walking towards the Louvre again you find some older buildings though. This here was built in 1843....

And this is a church in La Defense. It is opposite to our office but if I hadn't read it in my Paris-guide I would never have seen that this was a church. When I told my ex-boss on the way to the office on friday morning at first he didn't believe me...

Love that fountain....

Sukidog, let me know when you'll be there. I intend to be in Paris one week per month for at least the next 6 months as I need to get to know the people of my new department better. So there might be the possibility that we are in Paris at the same time.

Andrea
