Trip report Paris
Well, this will be mostly pics as I had to work nearly all the time... pics will folow soon, they are downloading right now.
When I arrived in Paris on monday evening I was supposed to meet with my boss Peter and my colleague Charles from Switzerland who had arrived an hour or two earlier. While checking in I switched on my mobile phone and found a message from one of my best friends that her father had died. I knew he had lung cancer and he was not well in the past weeks but my latest knowledge had been that he felt better and was at home and determined on fighting death. So this was a shock and I didn't feel like joining the other two who had gone to Paris (we were in La Defense which is the financial/commercial district of town). From my room I could see the Eiffel tower which had light shows for 10 minutes at 9,10,11 (probably at midnight too - don't know). I just stood there, staring at the view and not really being able to enjoy it (DID take pics though). I know how much my friend will suffer right now. The next morning I met with the 2 swiss guys at breakfast and we were in the office at 9. It was our first visit in the Paris office and the first one we met there while waiting for the french colleague was another colleague from Zurich (and it continued like this: saw familiar faces from Cologne and Zurich everywhere... ). My team colleague Jan joint us later as he flew in that morning which I had chosen not to do. Were in the office till about 8 PM, then went back to the hotel as Jan had to check in and Peter (my boss) wanted to powder his nose... ![]() ![]() ![]() Then we went to Paris (just 2 stops with the commuter train). Jeeez, being down in the subway is being like near the middle of the earth. Took us ages to arrive down there and it was worse on the way back as we were searching for the right platform... we went in circles for several minutes till we finally found out that someone had placed a wrong sign sending us in the wrong (opposite) direction. We arrived at the Opera which was illuminated and went to a brasserie called 'La Taverne'. Full of kitsch but a great place. After dinner we went back to the hotel. On the way back I detected that we would see the L'Arc de Triomphe from the street our hotel was at. Today it was just work, then taxi to the airport and now.... I DON'T HAVE TO GET ON A PLANE ANY MORE FOR THE REST OF THE YEAR!!!!! ![]() Pics will follow within the next half hour... although I didn't have much time to take pics I took a lot (considered) and I was surprised at how sharp most of them came out although it was dark all the time (will have to see them on the screem to verify though). Doesn't look like my new camera is a bad one...

Okay, here they are.... Peter and Jan know me well enough (have been working with them for years) so they know I take pics everywhere. Charles knows it now...
![]() ![]() ![]() View from my room upon arrival (you can't see that this room was a freaking fridge as it was not possible to regulate the aircondition) ![]() Lightshow (removed that pic as the light show is copyrighted and I don't want James and Anna and myself to get into trouble). The next morning after breakfast (this morning it was still dark when we left the hotel). ![]() Liked the mirror effect of the AGF-building ![]() On our way to the office. La Defense is ugly, not really a 'homely' area but it has a lot of interesting architecture and sculptures (guess I will have more occasions in the future to explore it) ![]() ![]() ![]() Those are views from the meeting room I spent the past 2 days in: ![]() ![]() ![]() On our way to the subway that evening ![]() On our way OUT of the subway... ![]() ![]() The Opera ![]() Christmas deco on a cafe ![]() La Taverne ![]() ![]() Charles' duck... *yumm* ![]() Subway station 'Auber' ![]() AND my coffee this morning. I just liked it being served on a silver tablet (and NO, this is NOT tequila in the shot glass... ![]() ![]() ).

Thanks Cuffed, I wasn't sure whether to open a new thread or put the pics under 'pictures of my day' but since some of the peeps have been to Paris, I thought they would like to see the pics. I will add more pics next year as I know it was only the first but not my last trip to Paris.
MWC, after having worked 2 days in la Defense I understand that this is just a 'working area'. People work there and go home as soon as they can. There is nothing for leisure, no trees, no parks... still, it is interesting. Andrea |

Just got back from another trip to Paris and I am tired to the bone. Furthermore I am roaylly p.... off since our HR-department has not been able to pay our wages yet (we should have gotten the money on monday) and I have to pay my vacations to the Philippines tomorrow...
![]() ![]() Not sure I will be kind to them if I don't get it tomorrow. No danger that I will not get it at all but getting it much later when you know that they could have taken measures to prevent that is a royal pain....Will have more pics from Paris for you tomorrow, I am just too tired today. Several of us got some kind of stomach-infection so today further to having to work a lot some of us (like myself) were not really feeling that well. Guess you will see more pics in the upcoming months since I will probably have to travel much more than last year (and that was already way too much *sigh). |
