Playa without a dought is best for night life. Night life in Coz seemed too american touristy. I've found a few gems over the past years, but they were those cool crappy bars off the beaten path you hang at to drink and have good tacos and even a couple of those have gotten oddly expensive. Not to be a too negative, but I feel a bit overwelmed when I'm visiting Cozumel for a day or two from playa due to the relentlessness of some of the folks there trying to get your business. I realize they're just trying to make a living so it doesn't really upset me in any way. That beach side is frickin' beautiful though! God I love cruizin' round that island on a scooter! Go for a day trip and go around the island by way of scooter or car rental and check out the little stops along the way. Get there early. Take your time and have a beer or two... That's the best thing about Cozumel in my mind. But go back to Playa for the night life hands down.

Having stayed in both Cozumel and Playa ...
I'd have to say Playa has more night life in an area easy to walk around from place to place.
The beaches on the east side of Cozumel are wild and awesome and so are some of the beach bars. There are some great little bars in Cozumel, some with live bands; but not easily found. The cruise ships leave Cozumel by 9 p.m. so the town gets back to normal. Cozumel has definitely changed in the past few years so we've been spending time in Isla Mujeres, Coz and Playa instead of it all on Cozumel. |
