Viva Viva Azteca

Just spent two weeks at the Viva Wyndham Azteca and thoroughly loved it!
OK it's not the most exclusive resort in the world but it's a very relaxing friendly place where so many of the staff seem more than ready to go out of their way to make guests feel at home.
The front of house staff were always ready with a smile and helpful manner in any kind of situation - and boy did we give them one especial problem (posted elsewhere). Restaurant and room staff were great, although we did find the bar staff a little surly at times.
The real stars are the animations team, what a bunch of Nutters!!! Where do they get their energy? They always seemed to have something on the go, either formally or informally. Their "come on everybody, get up and get busy" attitude would not suit everyone but it seemed to me that if you ignored them for a couple of days they left you alone anyway, but more fool you. They are such a smashing bunch! Even at lunch time they would ask if they could join you and it was fascinating to sit with them and talk about their experiences and motivation, and they were keen to learn about us too. Hey we even got an apology from the Croatian tennis coach because his country knocked England out of the Euro 2008 Football Championships!
Their real skill came through at showtime! I've read stuff elsewhere about how terrible these shows were because everything is mimed. Duh well come on, how good are you at miming in Spanish? And anyway what about the dancing????? My goodness could they put on a show. And if you weren't too listless to stay up after the show, they usually continued in the bar afterwards.
OK Playa experts who have been all over will have their own rating of this but all we can say is that if we never get back to PDC, Viva Azteca will have left is with some great memories. If it ends up the only potion open to you. we don't think you'll be badly done to!
By the way, sorry if you've read this elsewhere, but I just want to get this message far!

My family and I stayed at the Viva Azteca two years ago at this time and we loved it as well. Nice, quaint place and the staff, yes especially the animators were amazing. My son turned 5 while we were there and one of the kids club staff decorated our entire room with balloons, streamers, a sign for my son, ect.! That night he even had the chef prepare a special birthday cake.
We stayed at the Viva Maya last year for 2 weeks and although it was nice, we prefer the Azteca because it is smaller and more quaint! Here's to both of us being able to get back one day!!!!!

My husband and I stayed at the Azteca Nov. 23rd to 30th.
beachmom the Resort was exactly as you described it in a previous post...
It's a smaller resort, more quaint and quiet.

What I liked about the Resort was that even though there were planned activities if one chose not to participate you could always find a quiet spot to go to..
We did not take in the shows but many did..
The staff were all wonderful...This is a very friendly Resort and all involved go out of there way to please and they help make the Resort what it is..
..
The Resort is very clean and the grounds well kept..
The beach area was good shape when we were there.
Thanks especially to Rita our maid...
To all the waiters who served us and to Nelson (Beach bartender) our new friend..

Hope to go back to the Azteca next Nov.

!
I need to go back to Playa & apologize for the Gold Cup (North American Nations) final, and the 2002 World Cup.

Do you have any pictures? (Of the Viva Azteca, not the 2002 World Cup)

We love pictures!

Cute pictures, Cat. Especially the "Enhancement Playa Style".

It looks like Playacar's beach erosion is not a problem at the Azteca.

Thanks Jaunito
There are Whale sand bags in the water by the Azteca..
The Resort is doing what it can to save the beach ... I think they are doing a good job trying to help Mother Nature ..

My wife and I just got back from a stay at the Azteca. It was a great little resort. Here are some pictures from our stay. One piece of advice: before booking, join the Wyndham rewards program. You will get some nice perks. We were upgraded to a larger room (with jacuzzi bath) over looking the beach.
Since this is my first time posting images, I hope it works.

One thing we learned on this trip which I would like to pass on: JUST SAY NO TO SPEEDOS!

you need to open a photo hosting site (Photobucket, e.g.) and post your photos from there
