Cheap Hotel rates in Playa ??

Hi: can you recommend a low-budget hotel in Playa for me ?? It does NOT need to be on the beach -or- be near 5th Ave. (actually, closer to Playacar is better) Basically, I'm coming down to do some construction work in mid-July and I need a cheap$ place with A/C to stay at. No extra ammenities required. I'd love your recommendations. Thanks, iapx

You might try the Posada Happy Gecko. I think Amanda and Mario charge 250 pesos/night in low season. If you want a/c it's 100 pesos/night more. She also has some long term rates. The rooms are fairly basic but nice and include a kitchenette. There's a mini-super next door.

It's located on 10th Ave between 6th and 8th Streets. I doubt you'll need reservations this time of year, but if you want to call Amanda, pm me. She's from Canada and fully bilingual.

A cheap one, with no amenities is Marasol Hotel. Calle 5 North, between 5th and 10th Ave. I stayed at a $200 pesos room in January 2002, don't know the current rates but the person that was in reception told me that they do not change they rates through the year.
I don't know if they have A/C, but you can try to ask.

Don Emilione

We strongly recommend the Don Emilione. The hotel manager Ulises will be your own personal Conrad Hilton (I really mean that! Ulises is the greatest). No pool, and not on the beach, they do have good strong air conditioning and FIRST CLASS hotel management.

Posad Fernandez

When I'm in backpacker mode, I've stayed at Posada Fernandez for about $200 pesos or less, if I remember correctly. Willing to negotiate on multiple nights. Family run.

Sparten and very clean, no AC. Central enough. Always fit the bill when travelling on the shoestring. Upstairs rooms have a good feel with a little veranda area.

Stayed there several times before I started used the funkier boutique hotels at the other end of town.
