What's on the menu for Christmas Day/Eve?
Whether you have the big meal on the 24th or 25th, what are you having?
So far I only have turkey on my menu with Cranberry chutney. Haven't figured out the rest yet. I have time, right?

I don't know yet! We found out that Ashley and Wes and the baby are coming late afternoon, and my parents said they have nowhere else to go, so they'll be joining us. Ashley will have just come from a traditional big meal, so... do we do something non traditional like chili or lasagne or do we do the big meal again and make them suck it up?

Well, I travel to releatives on both Christmas Eve and Christmas Day, so I am not doing any of the main courses. But, like a lot of familiies, mine tends to associate the holidays with certain special foods.
On Christmas Eve, my cousin lays out the most amazing spread of foods...Martha Stewart learns from her! Turkey, ham, fancy side dishes, the prettiest cookies, etc. etc. So I'll most likely contribute a bunch of cookies and other sweets. Those are never turned away. I will probably also help my mom with a few of her traditional French Canadian things, like tortiere pie (pork and potato) and gorton (pork and onion spread). So bad for you but so delicious, that it's good that Christmas only comes once a year. On Christmas Day, we go to Charlie's brother's house...my sister in law usually makes a gigundo beef tenderloin with all the fixins. To die for.

We're having Christmas Eve dinner with Laurie, our niece/nephew and Laurie's brother and his wife, Esperanza.
We bought a ham yesterday to have around the house over the holidays - what a good multi-purpose meat it is ![]() ![]() I am going to make a spicy tinga poblano on New Year's Day. I think it will make a much better Smith family tradition than that of my parent's generation, black-eye peas. |

Breakfast is always eggs benedict, Chris makes a killer hollanadise sauce, hashbrowns and Mamosas. Dinner will be either ham or turkey, if I get ambitious it will be deep fried turkey. Kinda depends on the weather.
New Years eve is always seafood for us, king crab legs, clams, etc. Throw in a good bottle of wine sit back and listen to WW3 start in our town. I swear I heard machine guns last year. So many gunshots that the police don't even respond from 11:30pm until 12:30 am. We set on the covered patio as all of those gunshots have to land somewhere.

Christmas Eve will be here and we will be doing the usual fondue. Kids love it! Cheese and meat fondue. Play games for awhile and then do a chocolate fondue for dessert. Christmas day is at my parents house. We ar having ham and other traditional dishes.

We do Chinese take out xmas eve....
![]() Christmas Day and Boxing day are with family and so I never cook a Christmas meal. It's always turkey at both with the usual fixings. Boxing day at my sister's I will bring a broccoli casserole. I also do some other vegies there, garlic mashed potatoes and honey-dill glazed carrots. Kelsey always makes the desert for Boxing Day. She is a terrific little baker. This year she is making a pear-apple-strawberry pie, she has planned out the top to be overlapping stars of pate brisee to match the holiday. ![]() ![]() Christmas morning we have a tradition of waffles, strawberries, whipped cream, and maple bacon. Not good for us, but hey! |

Serves them right for not eating by you FIRST Do traditional, after all, your parents didn't get to eat what Ashley did.Have you ever seen the Vicar of Dibley, especially the Christmas episode where she is invited to about three people's homes for Christmas dinner and she has to EAT at everyone's place until she almost popped? Ashley would only have to eat twice.

At our house, mostly comfort foods. No big meal normally since there is so much going on. We always make sausage balls to snack on througout the day, pumpkin pie, egg nog, 7-layerd salad, maybe a pork tenderloin, etc. On Christmas morning I love to cook the kids a big breakfast while they are playing with their toys. For New Years Day it's always collard greens, blackeyed peas with cornbread and ham.

Michael and I just decided last night (I let him pick from a host of options). We're having beef tenderloin with shallot gravy, twice-baked potatoes, and green bean casserole (
we didn't get it for Thanksgiving, so we're craving it). It's just the two of us. |
