You are welcome....and re: the Gore article...I supposed you would be in favor of him being on "his own bandwagon" rather than him NOT being on his own bandwagon in this regard, yes? I mean that was what you folks were complaining about in the past...now that he has more completely stepped up, I would think you would be happy...or .......or...is it all just a partisan political thing with you guys?

(and...people still watch TV?)

I only comment because, being a midwestern country boy at heart, with many friends seeing their family farms being eaten up by larger "business farms," the price of corn is very concerning. Also, the prices of my sirloin steaks and pork ribs are also concerning

I'm all for renewable energy, but with ethanol plants being built all over (and each one being built bigger than than the last) who are farmers more likely to sell their corn to: a large energy company offering the highest premium because they saved a ton of money on tax breaks? or the farmer with 10,000 head of cattle in South Dakota?
I missed the part about the mandate for cellulose products like prairiegrass and wood chips...my bad

Yup....a big piece (21 billion of the 36 billion gallon increase) of the ethanol increase must necessarily NOT be the inefficient, food-based corn ethanol....cellulosic based ethanol is a much better solution both in terms of energy and green efficiency and price management of food products.....

Unfortunately, it's going to take quite a bit of time to build these "other" types of ethanol plants, and until they're built, corn will be the premo demand.

It's great to see the progressive (and optimistic) thinking, and hopefully it will spur more (i hate this cliche term, but) "outside the box" development in the energy industry.

I am not a huge ethanol fan unless we can ramp up cellulosic...but its going to take multiple technologies over the long run..the market will wean them out ....

Just read that wind energy is WAY up in terms of turbine sales in the U.S...finally......saw a cool TV show yesterday on....

Hybrid gas/electric powered vehicles
Plug- in hybrids
Electric powered vehicles ( VOLT!)
Solar powered vehicles
Bio-Fuel powered vehicles
Hydrogen Fuel Cell Vehicles (Norway is doing some really amazing stuff here)
And even compressed air powered vehicles....

Progress is moving along faster and faster...

More info here

Yep, saw something recently on how South America is tackling the problem with a particular high cellulose and quickly growing type grass. And remember, when corn prices go up so do beer prices!!!!

P.S. Glad Gore is now "walking the walk" instead of....well, you know...

So, maybe in 20+ years, we will begin stationing troops in South America to "search for weapons of mass destruction" and to "fight the war on Brazilian terrorists" in order to keep feeding our economy that requires billions of pounds of high cellulose grass to fuel our ethanol powered (and maybe flying) SUVs!!

Not partisan politics at all, I am just so over Gore....I'd actually much rather listen to someone like you on this stuff than Gore.

I think what may go unmentioned in the bio mass process is the amount of water needed to quickly produce millions of acres of vegetation

I like electrolysis produced hydrogen...the Norwegians are moving very quickly with this based upon a show I saw the other night.

I also like sustainably-produced electricity used in vehicles like the Volt.

I also like my new hybrid Prius.....

There are many avenues to try...we must try them more quickly.
