Make sure they are peer reviewed links. Do your homework before posting the links.
BTW: Medical Doctors are not scientists. They don't do experiments (except on their patients).

Okay
We like doing that stuff around here...referencing...from science publications and not testimonials.
It makes statements of fact more credible.

Ever since my hubby finished his Chem degree our diets have changed dramatically because he now likes to tell me what all the different things added to food are and if/how they are used in industrial practicies.

Its really scary how much food has the same chemical they use in pet friendly anti-freeze in it (propylene glycol Propylene glycol - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia) or even asprin (salicylic acid aka BHA on ingredient list Salicylic acid - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia)

Hi Bonny!

IMO, the problems with HFCS (High Fructose Corn Syrup) are complex and still not completely clear, but certainly worth being very concerned about. Everything from subsidization of corn and tariffs affecting pricing as compared to sucrose, over-use in products(similar problems to any sweetener), sustainability of the production, its shelf-life-product-extending capabilities, cancer-causing possibilities, and even peer reviewed studies indicating the compound in its various iterations may be more harmful than sucrose or plain glucose in leading to obesity.....which area would you like the link on?

I too was wondering which bit she objected to.....but I thought maybe it was the claim about cancer rates being higher and due to today's more processed foods?

I think it is her objection to "Faith Based" science statements, that are stated in such a way as if they are facts, preached by many here and on many on other web sites. Just the "Facts" please.

sure, fair enough, and I completely agree, in theory ....but it's a good idea to be clear about what specifically you are implying you think is not based on 'real' science as opposed to be based on pseudoscience, when calling someone out. That is all.

Didn't see anyone called out. Thought it was clear; although replies to it were pretty muddy.

It is, at times, the case that the scientific evidence can be ambiguous or inconclusive. At times, scientists disagree on the practical implications of the body of research for the daily lives of the rest of us.

Where does that leave us? Well, with the responsibility to make decisions for ourselves that are based on the best information we can find while remaining open to new information.

Sometimes this is best framed as "Here is what I do." I am tempted to and occasionally do make statements with a level of certainty that is probably greater than is deserved given the underlying science. I reckon I will keep doing that from time to time
