or craving the cazuela de camarón, I'd choose a huarache con tinga (spicy shredded chicken) almost every time!

Thanks Suzie we will definitely try it, it's easy to park at Mega and hit all of those spots and since we will be staying on the north end these will be our frequented spots.
Can you or anyone else give me the names of the 2 drinks I see all over (El Fogon comes to mind). They are usually in those machine that squirt the liquid on the lid and keep it recirculating. One is white (I wanna say it is Chaya?) and the other is bright red. The white kind of tastes like a milk shake and I'm not sure I have had the red. Seems that I heard/read that the the white drink contians a root good for digestion? Maybe I am way off but it sure tastes good! Thanks |

The white one: agua (water) de horchata. As far as I know, one of the ingredients is rice. The red one: agua de jamaica. Some places have an additional one, brown in color; that would be tamarindo. |

Negrosal?
Hi Suzie,
My wife and I are going to Barcelo Palace, June 20-25, and I've been looking to some resteraunts to go to. I looked up Negrosal, and it looked nice, how would you rate that, and what would be your top 3? I am looking to have a somewhat "romantic" dinner setting, but overall quality of food is most important thing. It is our 5 year annivesary. I also looked Mezzanine in Tulum, but I think that may be too far. |

I'm sorry, I'm not much help, but I do know that I've heard lots of good things about both those places as well as several others.Click HERE HERE and HERE for some other peoples' opinions. |

Alux has had a makeover

We just about fell over when we got our 4 drinks bill. We had 1 small banana daiquiri, 1 lg one and 2 lg margs....... 670pesos (or usd67.00). ![]() Outrageous - tip NOT included. Apparently they still need to pay off those reno's (and the ambiance of course!) Daren't look at a menu (we were never even offered one!) to see what kind of shock dinner would be. Not sure if its under new management and hence the food MIGHT be better - dunno, maybe someone else does.

El Fogon, El Tacamaron, Pinche Gringos.... and er....Alux.
Just came back home yesterday and still reeling over the AWESOME Tacos al pastor from El Fogon! (Across from Mega). DEEEELISH! We didn't have a chance to go to the place next door, although, we read that it was also very good.
We also went to El Tacamaron, twice... because the shrimp taco was fantastic! We made the mistake of eating dinner at Alux.... for our anniversary dinner. Wow. All I can say is, save your money. Have a drink there (the drinks were pretty good), enjoy the scenery, then high-tail it out of there, and maybe head over to El Oasis for dinner -- on the highway. Our dinner was not even airplane food worthy. It was that bad. We had pretty good fried shrimp tacos at Pinche Gringos -- I think it's on First Ave, near 28th, but I forget. We went to Palapas Hemmingway, because my husband loves their fried banana rolled in coconut and we go back there at least once to get it. Our meal was okay. But nothing spectacular. We also really enjoyed going to the Cafe at 24th --and 5th Av. I think... Cafe, Music, Life...or something like that. Across from the Real hotel. Always played cool music and they made yummy lattes. I couldn't believe how many Starbucks were on 5th! Ahhhh,.... I remember the days when Java Joe's was the only place we'd go for our caffeine fix. Check out El Fogon and El Tacamaron... you'll be glad you did! |
