New Addition to the Updated Restaurant List
As I am not one to party hearty throughout the night, I realize that my list of bars and clubs included in the restaurant list is fairly limited. I found a great list maintained by JIMMYMN, a regular poster to this forum, and with his permission I include it in the opening entry to this posting thread. I had to make it a separate download because my restaurant list was too big to be combined as one download.
I hope this new list fills in the blanks for all of the party animals out there. JIMMYMN says that he has kept it up to date, and as with the restaurant list, we depend on your updates of changes, new additions, closings and comments so we can flesh out each location with reviews that will help the visitors and regulars alike. You will find it at the beginning of this thread. Thank you Jimmy! |

Today's Loaftsers birthday
So, Loafster let us know she'll be coming in for drinks before heading to dinner today. Two great things: 1) we have our web cam back online, and 2) Cielo has a US telephone number.
Anyone who would like to call and say happy birthday and have her wave to you on the web cam is free to do so. The number is 718-710-4773 and the webcam is located at Hotel Cielo webcam in Playa del Carmen. The camera's still a bit blurry, but you can definately make everyone out. She says she'll be here around 5:00 PM (6:00 PM EST) and has no idea about this, so it should be a nice surprise. |

Thanks for adding the bar list! We're going with the family, so we won't be spending too many late nights out, but we'll keep it for Feb. when we leave our son home. What I really needed it for is the 12 young colleagues of mine who will be spending a week with us. They'll want to try a different place every night, I'm sure!

Recommendation Please
I am a newbe to this forum and am looking for a recommendation for a good inexpensive resturant. Let me explain; my son is getting married in Playa in October. I will be providing a rehearsal dinner of sorts for 30-40 people. I am looking for a resturant that can handle this many people and that will have beer and wine available as well as a reasonable price for the meal. Live music or a band is a plus. Any help is appreciated. Thank you.

A Private party for 30
It is not easy finding an inexpensive place with beer for 30 people in Playa without getting well off the beaten path.
My suggestion would be La Pumarolla, which is on 40th street at Flamingo (that is just one block from the beach). It is a really nice Italian restaurant with what I think is the best pizza in town. If everyone orders the veal, etc., it is not going to be cheap, but if they keep it to pizza and pasta, it will not be unreasonable. If you stop in beforehand to arrange something with them, I am sure they will work something out. Other suggestions to consider, La Vagabunda on 5th at 24th for Mexican, El Faisan y el Venado on 307, El Emporio on 38th Street for Argentinian and Pinche Gringo Sports Bar on 1st and 26th for shrimp tacos and good bar food. You should be sure to speak to them before you go and work out a menu so they have enough food for your people and can give you a price you can live with. |

I would also agree with dpreefer that La Pummarola could be good. They actually have a room adjacent to the main dining room that would probably fit your group. It is still open air. Hopefully you could devise your own menu and have a pretty reasonable cost. The food, especially pizzas are great. People also go there to pick up his oven fired bread which they are known for. It is off the beaten path, up a dirt road past shangri-la.

I would suggest a mexican rehearsal dinner at los carboncitos, a couple of friends did their anniversary party up in the terrace and the party looked great, the food was delicious and it was not expensive at all, plus the pictures came out great!!
the owner is really nice too and I am sure he can work something out for you Yaxche is also regional food, maby a little more expensive but you can ask both for quotations and get the best deal. Good luck, mmmm Im hungry now! |

I have to thank everyone who came to show support for my first opening of The Garden Of Eating.... Thanks James for letting me mention my new restaurant, as soon as word got out through this thread, we were busy!
I had to run back to Canada for business and then expand the restaurant, but we are open again, and now for dinner, too. I really lucked out and as well as Diane, we have a chef who has cooked Indian food, as well as Thai, so her dishes are exquisite. We are experimenting with naan bread, and our biriyani is great. Looking forward to meeting more Playa.info fans. Sincerely, Karen |

Have not looked at the list lately but BODEGDA 22 should be on it. Tons of vegetarian fare, but chicken, beef and fish as well.Breakfast, lunch, dinner. Great coffee/espresso. All really fresh. Extracted juices, not the blender type like DAC. Beer, wine (red is cellar temp), liquor. All fresh and well prepared, say hello to Joshua the owner who is there all the time. CORNER OF 5TH AND 22ND, HENCE THE NAME. GO THERE.
