I will check it out

I happen to be in Playa this wek, and I will check out Bodega 22. I walked by it last night, but did not notice it. I depend on peep's recommendations to alert me to new or overlooked places.

Speaking of overlooked places, I finally tried Las Cazuelas, on 26th between 5th and 10th. It is so small (4 tables) that you walk right past without a second thought. The owner, Miguel, is from Spain, and he makes the best paella I have had since eating on the Ramblas in Barcelona 30 years ago. Great tapas too. Put this little Playa boutique on your list to visit.

two questions about Las Cazuelas. we will be there in a few months and is pretty close to our condo. in the paella, what kind of meat/seafood is in that? secondly, would there be anything for a 6 year old to eat there?

thanks in advance...

The menu is small

The menu at Las Cazuelas is small, and posted on a chalk board on the street. It changes daily, depending on what is fresh in the shops. I would think there would be something for kids. If it is not on the board, I will bet my shirt that Miguel will whip something up to your child's preference.

The paella is always a special on Thursdays, and he will make it other times if he has the makings. When I had it there were loads of clams and mussels, shrimp and crab and lobster pieces. There were conch and fish chuunks as well as small squids. In my dish, he did not put any chicken or sausage as is often found in paellas. He makes the order custom, so he will put in what you want or leave out what you do not.

Buen provecho.

Garden Of Eating open at Dinner

Hello Dpreefer....
I was happy to see that we made your Restaurant List ! and I would like to add that we are now also open from 6 pm for dinner, and at dinner we are trying to specialize in Indian curries, with still some Thai curries on the menu as well.
Without a tandoori oven (yet) we are saying that we are "Indian - inspired", so that the diehard Indian food fans (like myself) are still totally satisfied.
For our Sunday Breakfast, as well as live classical music by Yvon Pepin, we have specialized Eggs Benedict with our own Curry Hollandaise Sauce.
There are of course some standard Mexican dishes available at all times.
Thank you, Karen

Good deal, try Bodega 22 and say hello to Joshua, he is the owner and great guy. It is located right next to Sunglasses Island on 5th and 22nd

Funny, opr what?

I have been reporting about the recently opened Garden of Eating because I heard such good feedback. I finally made it down to Playa again and wanted to try it first hand. My wife had a yoga class, so we got there just as they were closing after breakfast (and before reopening for dinner at 6 P.M.). Sorry I could not have breakfast today, I will return tomorrow, but asked for Karen just to say hello after exchanging a few e-mails. Her assistant called for her and she said "in one minute." Then she came up, repoting that she was held up sending me the nprevious posting about her new hours and entertainment. Coincidence?

I will report back about the food, but I can tell you all that the small garden is lovely and will give old-timers a flashback to the early Cueva de Chango, and the newbies can have a real funky and laid back Playa jungle breakfast experience. Check this place out, and let me hear some feedback about the new dinner service.

Updated list as of 10/1/08

I just returned home and, as usual, I updated the list as of 10/1/08. The list is available to download in the first message box of this thread.

Please keep me posted on any changes or closings so I can ensure the accuracy of my entries. And of course, send me any suggestions not already included.
