Last Feb we were in a condo in Playa for a month, so the list I had from you then is well worn. As we are heading there at the end of Feb I will transfer my comments & asterisks to this new list!! Thanks so much!!!

dON'T KEEP YOUR COMMENTS TO YOURSELF!

Listen up, Express! Don't keep your comments to yourself. Send a copy of them to me so I can evaluate them, compare them to other' comments, and update the restaurant list to keep it current. I eat out a lot, but I cannot possibly keep track of the turns and foibles of each restaurant. Help me out here and all future readers will thank you.

Hey DP! You might want to update your info on HC based on THIS thread, THIS thread, and THIS thread.

Also, to the best of my knowledge, neither of these still exists:

Quote:
• Tacos Israel- (Also known as Tacos Arabe) Awesome tacos. Tacos arrachera (flank steak) and tacos al pastor. There is a bright blue and white striped awning. Corner of 15th ave and 10th st. Possibly moved location recently.
• La Casita de Los Guisos (formerly La Madrina)- I have heard great things about this place. Tamales Veracruz style on weekends, mole, etc. 20th Avenue

Thanks for the info. We love trying different places to eat, it's one of our passtimes as you could tell from my hubby's girth. There was a place we ate at last year on a roof top and had a sax player, fabulous food, and great waitors. Don't know the name but will definately be on out to-eat list

Thank you Susie Q Roo

Thanks for the update on Tacos Israel and La Casita de los Guisos. They are off the list, although I hope Tacos Israel rises from the departed, because I loved his varied condiment bar. The updates on HC are already entered. I will be posting the updated list sometime end of February.

Keep those updates coming, folks!

Even with the review of ¨food is hit and miss¨ for Palapa Hemmingway, we decided to try it last night. The food was good although if you want vegetables with your dinner you have to order them a la carte. My mojito was ho hum with the mint a tad on the old side. What bothered me the most was the tip was added to the bill......I would normally have left a bigger tip than was requested. Am I wrong to be put off by them setting an amount?

Leia, as long as it was obvious that the tip was added and they didn't try to hide it, don't be angry. It's a common practice here, and I TOTALLY understand it. Unfortunately there are a lot of rude (or clueless) people here from countries where tipping is not the norm that will stiff the waitstaff, so adding a gratuity is a way to ensure the staff gets their due.

Unless they try to hide that they've added it in an attempt to scam me into double tipping, I never let it bother me. And if the service has been really good, I even leave more than they've added.

Thanks for the explanation Heather. I remembered it in a conversation this afternoon that yes, some countries don´t seem to know the need for tipping here. We had to poke our relatives from the UK a few times... and when dining out over there we were amazed that no tip was quite acceptable. The tip last night was right up front so we knew we were paying a tip on top of the total.

can't find

In Playa now. Looked for El Asadero al Carbon. Could not find it. So we went to Tacos Del Rey across from Chicago's and it does not seem to be there anymore. We were out on Monday night so not sure if they were closed,
WE then went to the El Tacamaron. IT was wonderful! The owner Samm is Very Friendly and helpful and the food was awesome. Totally not what we were expecting, but it was a nice change from the ordinary. The homemade chocolate mousse for dessert was outstanding and even if you do not have room after the huge shrimp taco, I recommend getting it anyway. The meal was very inexpensive, and a great experience.
Thank you for the tips. We will be tryng one or two more before we go home and we will let you know.
