I was going to ask where to find good empanadas... So is Doña Maria's theplace?

We enjoyed them there. I'm sure there are lots of restaurants that serve them. As my daughter just said, "They were f****g amazing, I could eat them everyday".

OK, here's the 'gringo' question of the day...

Do the restaurants offer sour cream? How about the grocery stores?

I dig it on mexican food

PS LOVE CHICAGO DON JOSE!
Love it cause we love Delia and her hubby and the fact that it is a good Midwestern meal in the middle of our trip! Delia is a breath of fresh air ! By the time dinner is finished you have met your fellow diners and it's like being at a dinner party at home!

It's not usually 'sour' cream as you think of it at home, but 'crema' is widely available at stores and in restaurants. I love it and don't miss the tang of regular sour cream.

I can't believe it has taken me 4 months to thank you DP for your great list. We were in playa for the 2nd time in dec. and used your list to supplement all the
info. from this site. A fave nice dinner was El Asador Manolo? on 10th. Just a great dinner and reminded us of our favorite argentinian steak place here in seattle.
We love Carboncitos.
Agree that Babes is overrated. And the service at the original was not good,
although I liked my mojito.
One place we fell in love with that you do not mention is La Pummarola at the
north end of town beyond shangri-la caribe. What fabulous pizza and dinner
was great too. It really got lively after 9pm when all the Italians showed up.
We felt like we were in Italy and loved the whole atmosphere. They make
great homemade bread, pizza , pastas etc.
We were so sad we have yet to eat at El Fogon. We were all psyched to have
our last meal there, and arrived around noon for lunch. They were out of
tacos al pastor??? Bummer. We left and went back to carboncitos.

You did pretty well.

You hit a lot of the highlights for one week, but you still have a lot to look forward to on your next visit. And thanks for reminding me about La Pummarola. I do not know how I left that out of my list, because it is one of my favorite places. Their food is excellent, and I think it is the best pizza in town. It is one of my favorite places to meet for a drink and snacks in the late afternoon because it is out of the way and quiet. It will be listed next month after I update my list again. Thanks for the reminder.

Love all the info about where to eat! I am very excited to try lots of these places, but.....Is there anyone who can tell me what some of the stuff is???? Don't want to sound ignorant, but a lot of the Mexican foods I have never heard of. Also, do the restaurants give a decription of what things are?? In English or in Spanish?

You might want to print out and bring THIS THREAD which is very helpful with food translations.

Couldn't agree with you more. Dalia and Peter are the best. We hope to get there 2 or 3 times next week. Also, thanks for the info on Pinche Gringos. We're planning on giving that a try a week from Friday.

Weight Watchers Dilemma

Everytime we have traveled to Playa (fourteen years in a row) we have stayed at either the Royal or Gran Porto Real and gained five to ten pounds. This year we are staying in a Condo in PlayaCar. After losing 20 pounds (me) and my wife (10 pounds), we want to save our "points" for dinners. Soooo, where can we go to buy provisions for breakfast and lunch, so we can pig out at night?

first off, you live in one of my most favorite places on EARTH!!! Point Reyes!!!

Second, you can shop at Mega grocery store. that's my preference. There is also a Wal-Mart, and a few others. Mega is my personal favorite b/c I love their bakery...and their liquor selection!!
